The Next Big Export? Bundesliga's Latest Gem Who's Becoming Impossible to Ignore

When you think about number 10's with both Turkish and German heritage in footballing history, Mesut Ozil may be the man who immediately comes to mind.

But that sentiment could be about to change, and in a big way, and it's all in the hands of a 19-year-old from Regensburg.

Bundesliga clubs have a very strong track record of selling players for profit, none more so than Eintracht Frankfurt, and they look set to continue that track record with their latest coup.

Can Uzun is only just starting out in the big leagues, but his current from and performance suggests he could be staying there for many years to come.

This is his journey so far, how his performances have captivated fans, and exactly why he's so special.

Can Uzun's Career So Far

Uzun isn't one of those who started with the world watching - he has worked his way through the youth system and professional divisions to get where he is today.

Initially, he was at his hometown club of Jahn Regensburg, before moving over to Bavarian club Ingolstadt.

In 2019, he moved to FC Nurnberg. In the 21/22 season, which he spent in the U17 Bundesliga, he would score 22 goals in 19 games.

He would then sign his first professional contract and score 15 goals in 15 games in the U19 Bundesliga to become the leagues top scorer.

This would lead to Uzun being recognised as a top prospect for the senior team, getting his debut in the April of 2023.

The following season would mark his first full season in the senior side and, playing 32 games in Bundesliga 2 saw him total a monumental 19 goals and 3 assists across the campaign.

As you might expect, at just 18 years of age, this gained mass attention from top clubs across Europe, and Uzun got his first big move.

He signed for Frankfurt, a club known for their development of young prospects, and it was a very well-advised move for the youngster.

His first season saw him begin to find his feet with managed minutes, with four goals and an assist in his 20 games in the Bundesliga, alongside some European experience.

All of that was an impressive haul for a season filled mostly with substitute appearances, but none of it compares to how Uzun has started this season.

The Hype is Real

How many players have we seen burst into the spotlight and then fade away into the background of the footballing world, leaving us thinking 'What happened to them?'.

The answer is it's too many to count, and you might be looking at Uzun thus far and expect that he will be next on that list.

But his current form would suggest that is far from the case.

Uzun has started this season absolutely on fire. With Ekitike and a few others departing the club, the opportunity presented itself to Uzun to really establish himself as a main man for the German side.

And boy has he done that.

Five games in the Bundesliga so far this season, five goals and three assists. One Champions League game so far, one goal.

At just 19 years of age, Uzun has lit up the Bundesliga already and is showing no signs of slowing down.

He is well on his way to becoming a fan favourite and a player that people from around the world want to tune in to watch.

His exciting, silky playstyle is turning heads all over the world, and Uzun is quickly becoming some of the hottest property and well-regarded wonderkids on the planet. So just what is it about his profile that is endearing him to so many?

Uzun's Playstyle

Uzun is one of those players who makes the game look exceptionally easy. He has stated in the past that he prefers to operate in the left half space, as a number 10 or as a number eight, but is more than happy to fulfil any role he is asked to fulfil.

Despite being a strong physical presence standing at 6ft 1in tall, Uzun has the balance and mobility of a player much more diminutive in stature.

He has a low centre of gravity which allows him to gracefully avoid challenges and manipulate the ball in tight congested situations, often dragging two or three defenders to try and dispossess him.

Uzun's technical arsenal is very strong - his quality with both feet makes him a dual threat in possession and his press resistance is one of his most fruitful abilities.

One of the more uncertain qualities, especially for a young player, is decision-making, but Uzun boasts maturity beyond his years, and a composure to match

Not only does he regularly make the correct decision, but he does it with such speed that opposition pressure is often a useless commodity.

His ability to initiate contact using his strong frame and continue his ball carrying is next to none.

Uzun isn't solely an attacking midfielder, often dropping deeper to pick up the ball and dictate his team's play in all phases of play.

He does have some limitations in his defensive qualities, but that will come with time and experience, and, considering the foundations are in place in every technical and creative facet of his game, that side of the game is not too much of a worry at this stage.

How High is Uzun's Ceiling

If what we have seen thus far is anything to go by, Uzun doesn't have a ceiling.

Now of course that isn't the case, but it does feel like he could be a sky is the limit type player.

Uzun has all of the attributes to succeed and become one of the best in his position in the world.

And not only does he have the attributes, but he also has something which is the demise of many young players who are thrust into the spotlight at a young age.

He has the attitude.

Uzun has the minerals of a big-time player, often throwing himself into the limelight for big moments and shouldering the pressure with ease.

He has the accountability and humbleness to survive at the top level, but also the supreme confidence in his own ability to play with complete freedom in any environment.

He appears to be a rare breed of player, and there seems to be little standing in the way of his path to the summit of the beautiful game.

His current club in Frankfurt is the perfect environment for him to grow; their track record of selling talent on to top clubs for big fees speaks for itself.

And with everything mentioned in mind, don't be shocked to see him balling out on the world's biggest stages for the entirety of his career.

In fact, that is a guarantee from me.

Can Uzun, remember the name.
