Where next for Dani Olmo?
RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo had an incredible Euro 2024 campaign with Spain despite not having a starting place in the squad until the semi-final. He was behind Pedri in the pecking order until the Barcelona midfielder’s injury against Germany, which allowed Olmo to come in and make his mark on the team.
His crowning performance was in the semi-final match against France, when the 26-year-old scored an incredibly silky goal to give Spain the lead late in the first half. His two sweet touches to get past the defender and a shot into the bottom corner were enough to lead Spain into the final.
Due to his excellent summer performances, and his consistency at RB Leipzig, he has attracted a lot of interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, but which one is he likely to join?
Olmo could stay in Germany and join giants Bayern Munich as they look to rebuild after falling short of the Bundesliga last season. However they are looking at him as a plan B option should they fail to sign Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain and Desire Doue from Rennes.

On Sunday, he headed the ball off the goal line in the 90' vs. England to keep Spain's lead in the Euros final.

Bayern have already acquired the services of Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, and so with the possible additions they have lined up, they won’t be looking to add Olmo as well. However, with other clubs sniffing around Simons and Doue, they might come back for Olmo.
There is always the possibility that Olmo returns to his home country of Spain, and rejoins the club he left in 2014, when he was just 16. The midfielder’s agent has already been speaking to Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, about a potential transfer to the Catalonian club.

However Barcelona, like Bayern Munich, have their eyes set on other targets as a priority over Olmo. His Spanish teammate Nico Williams could be heading to the Camp Nou this summer should Barcelona beat Arsenal and Chelsea to his signature, and the club’s financial situation means that if that happens, it would be unlikely that Olmo would follow.
Pep Guardiola has been a long time admirer of Olmo so that could lead the Premier League champions into capturing the signature of the 26-year-old. The Spainiard’s close control and precision passing would be a perfect fit for City but they aren’t in desperate need of his services.
They have a lot of attacking talent and, despite a poor European Championships, it looks unlikely that Pep Guardiola will be looking to replace Phil Foden in his midfield. Bernardo Silva’s future at the club has been questioned every summer for the last four years so he might be on his way out in the next two months, but that also seems very unlikely.

Other Premier League teams have been sniffing around. Liverpool are particularly keen, but they have kept their cards close to their chest so far in the transfer window. Arsenal is another option, but like many other clubs, they have their eyes set on other targets.
There is always a possibility that Olmo stays at Leipzig, but he has made it clear that he wants a move. He joined the German side in 2020 and has made over 100 appearances for them. However in a recent interview he said that he “wants to be in a place where he is appreciated and loved”.
He also made it clear that he wants to win. In his career, he hasn’t won any major titles at a club level, his most impressive trophy being the DFB-Pokal twice, so a move could help him achieve that.
Whichever club manages to sign him this summer will have a serious player on their hands and at just 26, he has a long time left in his career.
