The former Ghana manager made history with Sudan in the most recent instalment of the AFCON, guiding them to the knockout rounds for the first time in their history. He also knocked out his home country, Ghana, from the AFCON qualifiers last year. Appiah also guided The Black Stars to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Appiah is a proven winner, a seasoned coach whose career is defined by delivering when it matters most. Time and again, he hasn’t just met expectations, he’s surpassed them, turning pressure into performance and ambition into tangible success. While it is yet to be confirmed whether he is interested in the role at Burkina Faso, it would be an astute acquisition.

Burkina Faso’s campaign unravelled in brutal fashion, crashing out of AFCON at the Round of 16 after a 3–0 defeat to Ivory Coast. The fallout was swift. Head coach Brama Traoré was relieved of his duties following a run of results that fell well short of a nation’s expectations. An early continental exit, accompanied by the failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, signalled that change a change was essential.
Now, with their ambitions reset, Burkina Faso are turning the page. A full-scale rebuild is on the horizon, and in Kwesi Appiah they believe they have found the steady hand and proven leader capable of restoring belief, structure, and momentum.
