This match promises goals. Villa have scored nine in four matches whilst Brighton have scored seven in this time. The home side have scored in each outing at The Amex this season, scoring at least two goals in every game bar one (1-1 draw vs Fulham) to enhance my point. Villa manager Unai Emery has called out for side to improve the standard of peformance away from home and opportunity arises at a place where they are unbeaten in seven out of eight previous visits, four of these meetings seeing goals scored by both sides. We are routing for a goalfest again here, both Over 2.5 Goals and Both teams to score seeming like logical bets.
Its always likely to see an element of distaste creep into high-stake affairs. Discipline and Brighton appear to not get along very well. The Seagulls have racked up 33 yellows so far this Premier League campaign, only behind leaders Bournemouth with 35. The home side are likely to have their work cut out to stop a Villa side in fine form and we are siding with the hosts to recieve the most cautions again here.
Luca Digne will know that a tough evening awaits him on the seaside. The speed and technical ability of Yankuba Minteh is enough to cause nightmares for anybody, even the Brighton players must be sick of him ripping them up in training. Minteh has four assists already to his name for the campaign and will be raring to go at the French defender who has recieved two yellow cards so far this season. If Brighton can keep Minteh involved in the game throughout, expect him to play a big part at Digne's expense.
Carlos Baleba has shown his quality time and time again in a Brighton shirt, including some worldie strikes that you can't help but appreciate. There is one downside to his game though, the discipline. Baleba is likely to be a popular man at Christmas with the number of cards he has recieved in his career and recently cost his side against Brentford by conceding a penalty. This physical nature is what makes Baleba so dominant in the midfield and the test of Aston Villa is likely to call for a physical battle again. We are taking a chance at Baleba comitting 2+ fouls, hoping that he is on the pitch for long enough to do so.
Perhaps dangerous to side with the old formbooks but Aston Villa have had much joy in this fixture in the past and its hard to look past them doing so again. That being said, Brighton's strong form at home this season cannot be ignored, so a double chance play here is the perfect option to safe myself some dignity if all was to come crashing down. No pressure, Villa.
