Who’s Next At Carrow Road? Norwich Manager Odds And Our Bets

Norwich City Permanent Manager Odds And Betting Guide

Weeks of speculation, thousands of disgruntled fans, and too many poor performances have boiled down to one outcome at Norwich City.

Liam Manning’s sacking.

It wasn’t supposed to pan out like this. Manning is a Norwich boy, born and bred in Norfolk. His appointment as the Canaries' head coach was expected to be a romantic reunion that would hopefully culminate in Premier League promotion.

Four months later and Norwich have won two of their 15 Championship games under Manning. Leaving them in 23rd with nine points to their name.

Ben Knapper, Mark Attanasio, and all others on board at Carrow Road will need to formulate a fast turnaround in East Anglia. No doubt interviews are already taking place so that Manning’s successor can be selected.

Courtesy of Talk Sport Bet, Football Park breaks down the Norwich manager market, detailing the current favourites and predicting who we believe will secure the role.

Gary O’Neil - 2/1 (3.00) odds

Gary O’Neil’s name has appeared in several headlines recently. Initially, for withdrawing from the Wolverhampton Wanderers manager race, and then due to being a leading candidate for the Southampton job.

O’Neil played for Norwich for two seasons between 2014 and 2016, making 59 appearances, including 29 in the Premier League.

The 42-year-old’s only coaching experience in the Championship was as an assistant to Jonathan Woodgate and Scott Parker at Bournemouth. O’Neil would be an attractive option for Norwich; however, with Southampton interested, it would be a hard task to lure him away from the South Coast.

Russell Martin - 5/2 (3.50) odds

Another favoured candidate who was a player at Carrow Road once upon a time. Russell Martin spent eight years with the Canaries, playing for them in the Premier League over 120 times.

Martin’s name has been left tarnished by the press since his disastrous spell as Rangers head coach, on top of his poor displays managing Southampton. The 39-year-old will now be looking for a chance to rebuild his career, with the Championship a realistic place to start.

Norwich fans might be reluctant to welcome Martin, as his track record does not guarantee any form of safety from relegation. However, that has not stopped him from becoming one of the favourites for the job.

Daniel Farke - 5/2 (3.50) odds

A bit more of a bizarre option, seeing as Daniel Farke is currently coaching in the Premier League with Leeds United. Everyone knows Farke’s history with Norwich. In his three Championship seasons with the Canaries, the German won two second-tier titles and had a 51.5% win record.

If Farke were to be sacked by Leeds, then the 49-year-old would shoot to the top of this list, but for now, it seems unlikely that he would voluntarily leave his Premier League position for the Norwich job.

Brendan Rodgers - 5/1 (6.00) odds

Brendan Rodgers is an outsider for the Norwich job and a slightly unrealistic one. The Northern Irishman has not coached in the Championship since he guided Swansea City to promotion in 2011, and doesn’t appear to be planning a return anytime soon.

Rodgers has proven before that he can save Championship sides from relegation, doing so with Watford back in 2008/09. The 52-year-old would be a brilliant coup for Norwich, but his inclusion on this list is arguably down to his name rather than realism.

Michael Carrick - 6/1 (7.00) odds

Everyone is anticipating Michael Carrick’s return to the management game after what was a relatively successful first head coach role at Middlesbrough ended in June.

The 44-year-old has proved that he can earn results in the Championship, and his youthful age also sets him up nicely for another long-term project. Carrick joined Middlesbrough when they were just a point above the relegation zone three years ago, before leading them to a 4th placed finish. Norwich City fans would hope for a similar fortune should he be appointed at Carrow Road.

Football Park’s Best Bet

Having filtered through all the candidates' odds, Football Park believes that Michael Carrick & 6/1 (7.00) odds is a brilliant choice. The bet blends realism with value. Carrick is a candidate who will be looking for another Championship job as a man with a proven track record at turning a club's fortunes around.

At 7.00 odds, a £10 bet could soon turn into £70 should Carrick be appointed head coach of the Canaries! However, bear in mind this is an estimated prediction, and not a guaranteed outcome.
