The group stages have come to a conclusion, and just 16 nations remain in the 2025/26 edition of the African Cup of Nations. Here, we have a cracker in store, as Group F victors Côte d’Ivoire take on Group E runners up Burkina Faso in what could offer an exciting final day in the round of 16.
Both of these nations ended their group stage and year on a high, with the Elephants winning a five-goal thriller against Gabon, while Burkina Faso rallied to a 2-0 victory over Sudan to secure safe passage to this round.
We believe that this could be a very tight affair, but an encounter in which we see Côte d’Ivoire coming out on top of.
Key Betting Tip: Côte d’Ivoire to Win at 1.75 odds on TalkSPORT Bet represents excellent value based on the tip provided by our algorithm.
This match looks exciting from an Ivory Coast win angle. The Elephants have improved to no end over the past year or so, not only securing passage to their first FIFA World Cup since 2014 but also going unbeaten in the ‘group of death’ alongside Cameroon, Gabon and Mozambique. Burkina Faso did do well to get out of their group as runners up, but this could be a step too far.

Burkina Faso Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Herve Koffi; Arsene Kouassi, Edmond Tapsoba, Issoufou Dayo, Cedric Badolo; Ibrahim Toure, Saidou Simpore; Georgi Minoungou, Stephane Aziz Ki, Cyriaque Irie; Lassina Traore.
Ivory Coast found themselves in a tough group alongside Mozambique, Cameroon and Gabon, however, after achieving seven points they flew through to this stage in flying colours. After defeating Mozambique 1-0 in matchday one, they followed it up with a good and entertaining draw with Cameroon before giving Gabon their third loss in the group in a 3-2 manner.
Burkina Faso, meanwhile, found themselves in a tough group, needing to be the best of the rest behind the favourites Algeria. An important opening 2-1 victory over Equatorial Guinea was had after they found two goals deep into stoppage-time before they were undone in matchday two to a Riyad Mahrez penalty, but a win over Sudan on the final match meant they finished in second place.

Côte d’Ivoire Last 5 Matches:
After comfortably qualifying for their first World Cup in over a decade, the Elephants played two friendlies in November. They headed to the Middle East, where they experienced mixed success, losing to Saudi before beating Oman. They then headed to Morocco to play in AFCON, where it has been so far so good for them.
Burkina Faso Last 5 Matches:
The Stallions had some very helpful warm up matches in November before AFCON after narrowly missing out on a World Cup Qualifying playoff spot as a top four second-placed nation. They played both Niger then Benin, winning both before going on to achieve six points from a very tough group.

Football Park’s Best Bet: Côte d’Ivoire to Win @ 1.75 - Recent form suggests confidence in an Ivory Coast win.
Christopher Operi (Côte d’Ivoire): Operi has had an excellent group stage for his nation so far. The defender has been critical at both ends of the pitch, recording two assists already, and if he can keep up his chance creation, the Elephants could win comfortably.
Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso): Tapsoba has been instrumental for his nation thus far. He has been one of their top performers, and as the biggest name in the Stallions squad, his performance on the 6th could prove crucial for their hopes of progression.
Referee: Mahmood Ali Mahmood Ismail (SUD).
