Match Details: 27th July, 2025 | Estadio do Morumbi, Sao Paulo | Brazilian Serie A
As the Brazilian Serie A season slowly heads towards its halfway point, Fluminense will be looking to close the gap to the top four if they want to play Copa Libertadores football next campaign.
Fluminense, who reached the Club World Cup semi-final earlier this month, visit Sao Paulo, who themselves sit perilously close to the relegation zone - the hosts will be looking to create some breathing room here.
Key Betting Tip: A draw at odds of 3.06 on Highbet represents excellent value for the tip provided by our in-house tipsters.
Sao Paulo Predicted XI (3-5-2): Rafael (GK); Alan Franco, Robert Arboleda, Nahuel Ferraresi; Wendell, Oscar, Damian Bobadilla, Marcos Antonio, Cedric Soares; Andre, Luciano Neves.
Though they are a team studded with former European football stars, Hernan Crespo’s side have struggled with consistency this season, notching back to back victories just twice since the start of the season.
With a huge win at Corinthians last time out will have brought some confidence back, and Sao Paulo are expected to lineup in much the same way here in an attempt to repeat the feat.
Fluminense Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Fabio (GK); Gabriel Fuentes, Juan Freytes, Thiago Silva, Samuel Xavier; Hercules, Facundo Bernal; Yeferson Soteldo, Nonato, Kevin Serna; German Cano.
Winless since the Club World Cup, expect coach Renato Gaucho to put out a strong XI here. Losing to Flamengo and Palmeiras, Fluminense could not have been given a less welcoming return. Nevertheless, fixtures ease up a little from here, and Gaucho will be looking to take full advantage.
Only Otavio will be unavailable for this game, having suffered an achilles tendon injury in March that is set to keep him out for the rest of the season - outside of that, Fluminense boast a fully available squad.
Sao Paulo currently occupy 14th place, and sit on 16 points having won three, drawn seven and lost five games. They lie two points ahead of 17th placed Santos, and will soon find themselves in the midst of a relegation battle if they fail to string some results together.
Meanwhile, the outlook for Fluminense is looking far more positive - currently eighth, they have accumulated 20 points so far this season, and sit four points back from the Copa Libertadores qualification spots, which start in sixth. However, with a four point gap back to Sao Paulo, Fluminense will be wary that any slip-up could see them tumble down the standings.
The two sides have played each other 30 times in the last 15 years, with Fluminense boasting a marginal advantage in their head to head record, with 13 wins to Sao Paulo’s nine.
Recent Head to Head Meetings:
This fixture has not seen an away victory since 2020, and in their last five meetings, the points have always gone to the home side.
Fluminense claimed the most recent victory in the rivalry, defeating Fluminense 2-0 last September thanks to goals from Kaua Elias and Keno, while Fluminense’s last victory came in the meeting prior, as goals fromBobadilla and Arboleda turned the game around after a Vinicius own goal gave Fluminense the lead.
Sao Paulo Last Five Games:
With four points in their last two games, Sao Paulo have stopped the rot, but their precarious position means they cannot afford to slip-up yet. Their target now is to build a suitable buffer to the bottom four.
Dominant in their win over Corinthians last time out, Sao Paulo showed they have the talent to wipe the floor with some Brazil’s best teams, but their inconsistency has led fans to question which side is going to show up every week.
Fluminense Last Five Games:
Much of Fluminense’s poor recent form can be attributed to burn out as a result of their unexpected run to the semi finals at the Club World Cup. The conditions were hot, the pitches were mediocre to say the best, and the side played games every three or four days, building up fatigue.
Their defeats have also come against the top three in the league - possibly the harshest run of fixtures they could have had upon their return, and with the difficulty of their fixtures easing in coming weeks, there should be ample opportunity to stem the flow of losses.
Our advanced algorithm has analyzed over 200 data points to predict that the game between Sao Paulo and Fluminense will end level - both sides' recent form has been inconsistent, and neither will be able to consistenly break through the other's back line. 1-1 will be the final score here. The model factors in current form, head to head records, player availability and tactical matchups.
Football Park’s Best Bet: Draw - Though we all know the quality Fluminense possess after their incredible showing at the CWC last month, their returning form in the Brazilian top flight will have seen post tournament confidence plummet. Sao Paulo are a beatable opposition, but Fluminense won't be able to find that winner unless they are at their best, That is why we are predicting a draw here.
Ferreira (Sao Paulo): After a solid debut season last year, Ferreira has truly taken his game to the next level this campaign. Netting five goals and notching two assists, he ranks in the top three for virtually every attacking metric at the club, such as big chances created, dribbles per 90 and shots on target ratio. His direct running and willingness to shoot from anywhere will unnerve Fluminense - they will need to be switched on at all costs.
Thiago Silva (Fluminense): Still an elite defender at the age of 40, Thiago Silva showed everyone exactly why he will go down as a legend of the game at the Club World Cup. His sense of position is second to none, and he always finds himself in the right place to make a crucial clearance or an important block. Though he may have lost a step of pace with his age, he is so good he doesn’t really need it.
Stadium Details: The Estadio do Morumbo, home ground of Sao Paulo, is one of Brazil’s most iconic stadiums. Opened in 1970, it has hosted Copa America clashes and music festivals, and thanks to a full renovation in 2016, it is up to date with the newest facilities.
