Newly minted Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich will make their first test drive as conquerors on Saturday when they host Borussia Monchengladbach.
While they couldn’t seal themselves against RB Leipzig, Vincent Kompany’s team knew that anything less than a win for Bayer Leverkusen against SC Freiburg would see them top the league, and following their 2-2 draw in that fixture, Munich were able to etch their name onto the famous trophy for the 17th time this century.
While Munich’s season is virtually over, Monchengladbach still have European football to play for. It is a long shot, as they sit five points back from current Conference League qualifiers Leipzig in ninth. With two games left, they know that nothing but two wins will do if they to have any chance of playing continental football next year.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
This game will be shown on Sky Sports Football, with kick-off scheduled for 17:30 pm GMT on Saturday.
-They have conceded 14 goals in that time, including a 43 defeat to Holstein Kiel, and a 4-4 draw with TSG Hoffenheim.
Bayern Munich Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Jonas Urbig (GK); Konrad Laimer, Josip Stanisic, Eric Dier, Sacha Boey; Aleksandar Pavlovic, Joao Palhinha; Kingsley Coman, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry; Thomas Muller.
Though Bayern haven’t been at their effervescent best for at least a month, the buffer they had built themselves from second placed Leverkusen afforded them so much wiggle room that their form didn’t matter. All they needed was for Xabi Alonso’s side to slip up on a couple of occasions.
Having a long injury list didn’t help their form over recent weeks. Players such as Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, Jamal Musiala, Raphael Guerreiro and a number of others have been missing for a while, and with Manuel Neuer our for the foreseeable future, there is only so much that 21-year-old Jonas Urbig can do in between the sticks.
With that being said, the player’s filling the gaps have done an admirable job, and now have a Bundesliga trophy for their efforts. While they may not be in the Champions League semi-finals, and haven’t gone as deep in the DFB Pokal as they would have liked, this can still be classed as a successful season for the German juggernauts - particularly for one Harry Kane, who can finally add a team trophy to his ever growing cabinet of personal accolades.
Borussia Monchengladbach Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Jonas Omlin (GK); Lukas Ullrich, Ko Itakura, Stefan Lainer, Joseph Scally; Julian Weigl, Rocco Reitz; Robin Hack, Kevin Stoger, Franck Honorat; Tim Kleindeinst.
If they hadn’t taken their eye off the ball over the last month or so, Monchengladbach could have all but sealed European football by now. Prior to their defeat to Freiburg, Gerardo Seoane’s side had won six of their last 10, losing just two of them.
However, they experienced a catastrophic drop off since, with the 2-1 defeat to Freiburg followed by losses to Dortmund and Holstein Kiel. In their last two games alone they have picked the ball out of their own net eight times, a stat reflective of their lack of confidence.
However, they may come into this game as favourites. From various social media posts, it seems Bayern Munich have been enjoying their celebration, and if Premier League champions Liverpool’s performance against Chelsea is anything to go by, Munich will be well off the pace here.
Recent Meetings:
With Bayern Munich set to be sluggish and perhaps a little lethargic, this game will become open quickly, and Monchengladbach will have unexpected freedom to threaten the home side's goal.
While Bayern still pose a substantial threat when they do have the ball, they won’t be quite as fluent here, and we reckon it will be a high scorer. We are back over 3.5 goals and both teams to score.

While Monchengladbach will continue their prolific run in front of goal, their defensive issues will also persist, costing them the victory here.
