Bayern Munich have been champions of Germany for two weeks now, and are likely starting to get a little bored with the celebration. This spells bad news for Hoffenheim, who Bayern visit on Saturday afternoon, as if Vincent Kompany’s side play with purpose again, the scoreline could get out of hand very quickly.
However, the good news for Hoffenheim is that they have the added incentive of something to play for. The hosts currently sit 15th, three points clear of last 16th placed Heidenheim, and bar both a heavy defeat to Bayern and an equally heavy win for their rivals, they will seal Bundesliga football next season on the final day.
Playing for top tier survival is more than enough to motivate any team, so expect to see a disciplined, well-organised Hoffenheim performance as they look to keep the game close for as long as possible.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
This game will be broadcasted on Sky Sports Football, with kick-off set for 14:30 GMT on Saturday.
TSG Hoffenheim Predicted Lineup (3-1-4-2): Oliver Baumann (GK); Kevin Akpoguma, Leo Ostigard, Arthur Chaves; Anton Stach; Marius Bulter, Andrej Kramaric, Tom Bischof, Pavel Kaderabek; Adam Hlozek, Bazoumana Toure.
After a seventh place finish last season, Hoffenheim have failed to build on a good performance in 2023/24, and have instead given themselves needless nerves ahead of the final day, with their top flight status on the line.
They have simply never been able to build up a head of steam, and have failed to notch consecutive victories in any competition this season. Furthermore, their defence in recent weeks has been nothing short of diabolical, needlessly dragging them into the relegation battle.
The one positive they have going into the final day is that their squad is full of experienced Bundesliga players who have a history of getting the job done. As long as they avoid a 5-0 defeat on Saturday, then a 1-0 win for Heidenheim would not be enough to escape the drop zone, and Hoffenheim would scrape another season of top flight football.
Bayern Munich Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer (GK); Raphael Guerreiro, Eric Dier, Konrad Laimer, Sacha Boey; Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich; Kingsley Coman, Tomas Muller, Michael Olise; Harry Kane.
Though the party has been going on for two weeks, Bayern only lifted the trophy for the first time in two years last weekend, after a comfortable 2-0 win over Monchengladbach in which Thomas Muller played his final home game for his boyhood club.
Harry Kane lifted his first trophy, Michael Olise got quite annoyed when his teammates drenched him with beer, and the overall mood inside the Allianz Arena was Euphoric - Vincent Kompany would love to finish the season on a victory, and an even bigger high.
Though they are suffering from a number of significant injuries, including the absences of Upamecano, Stanisic and Davies, they have nothing left to play for this season, and Kompany will be more than happy to rotate on the final day to give some second string players some final minutes.
Recent Meetings:
There is no better feeling than securing a victory on the day you are set to lift the title, and after their triumph over Monchengladbach last week, Bayern may take their foot off the gas. This opens the door for Hoffenheim. This game is massively important for them, and they will set up as such, making it hard for a lethargic, partied out Bayern Munich to play their way through.
We are predicting a surprise draw here, which will see Hoffenheim secure safety.
TSG Hoffenheim 1-1 Bayern Munich
Though a draw would be considered a shock, it would be as much of a surprise. It is normal for title winners to relax once the trophy has been lifted, and Hoffenheim are simply fortunate to be meeting a Bayern Munich side with nothing left to play for.
