We are back for some EFL SkyBet Championship this weekend, and Saturday kicks off with three games, including Coventry City welcoming Birmingham City to the Coventry Building Society Arena. The hosts are still unbeaten in the league, however, find themselves winless since their 7-1 demolition job of QPR, while Birmingham put an end to their losing streak last weekend, in a win 1-0 win over Swansea City. With this game being too close to call, we have gone for two recommended tips for this fixture.
Key Betting Tips: Coventry Double Chance at 1.26 and BTTS at 1.7 odds on Kwiff, representing excellent value based on the tip provided by our algorithm.
Coventry Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Carl Rushworth; Jay Dasilva, Liam Kitching, Bobby Thomas, Milan van Ewijk; Matt Grimes, Victor Torp; Brandon Thomas-Asante, Jack Rudoni, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto; Haji Wright.
Birmingham Predicted XI (4-4-1-1): Ryan Allsop; Alexander Cochrane, Christoph Klarer, Jack Robinson, Bright Osayi-Samuel; Demarai Gray, Seung-Ho Paik, Tomoki Iwata, Marvin Ducksch; Patrick Roberts; Jay Stansfield.
There may be one change for Chris Davies to make going forward, as Roberts’ recent form could make him the favourable pick over Lewis Koumas.
The Sky Blues have had a well-fought unbeaten start to their Championship season. After narrowly missing out on a return to Wembley for the play-off final last campaign, Frank Lampard recruited strongly over the summer period, and his side have won twice, drawing their other four, leaving them on 10 points after six games and just within the play-off places on goal difference. They will certainly hope to build on this and continue their rise up to the top with a victory in the Midlands on Saturday.
As for Birmingham, only 10 goals have been scored across their six games so far this season, and their three wins, one draw and two defeats see them below Coventry on goal difference, suggesting this game could have a lot on the line for both sides.
Across their previous 14 meetings, half of these ended in stalemates, with the Sky Blues coming out on top slightly, with four wins to Birmingham’s three. Saturday’s visitors haven’t had the upper hand in recent times, winning just one of the last five games between the sides, although they did win the last meeting. Coventry have won three of the last five.
Recent Head-to-Head Results:
The last meeting between these two came in April 2024, where Birmingham won comfortably at home, in 3-0 fashion. They did eventually get relegated, however.
Coventry Last 5 Matches:
Coventry have been in fine form in front of goal his season, scoring 15 – more than any other side. They are prone on the defensive end, however, conceding seven.
Birmingham Last 5 Matches:
Birmingham are even on goal difference, both scoring and conceding five.
Our advanced algorithm analyses over 200 data points to generate these predictions with confidence in either a Coventry Double Chance or BTTS victory. The model factors in current form, head-to-head records, player availability, and tactical matchups.
Football Park’s Best Bet: Coventry Double Chance @ 1.26 - Recent form suggests confidence in a close game. With neither side in amazing form in terms of victories, this could be decided by one or two goals. Coventry have been the better side, however, and with home advantage should not lose.
Alternative Bet: BTTS @ 1.7 - This could also be a good bet if you are looking for a better return. Only Wrexham’s matches have featured more goals than Coventry’s this campaign, suggesting we could be in a for high scoring affair.
If you feel confident in both of our tips, combining them together would offer odds of 2.1, enabling the maximum return on investment. Bear in mind, however, this is the riskiest, with both legs having to occur in order for the full payout
Haji Wright (Coventry): The American has seemed to all but confirm his starting role up top, and his five goals in just six games show his instrumental influence on his team.
Jay Stansfield (Birmingham): Despite the relatively quiet start to the season, Stansfield is still believed to be the real deal in this league, and he could pop up with some magic at any moment.
Referee: Thomas Kirk (ENG). The experienced English official has handed out an average of 3.3 yellow cards per game throughout his 167-match career.
