Northern Ireland vs Iceland Prediction:

Northern Ireland take on Iceland in the last international friendly before all the players head on holidays, the Club World Cup, or back to their clubs for pre-season or league fixtures.

This will be Italy’s second game in their group, after missing out on the initial round of fixtures due to their Nations League commitments. They come into Monday night on a search for three points to open their account for the 2026 World Cup Qualifying campaign, following their 3-0 loss in Oslo on Friday.

They face a struggling Moldovan side who come into their third game without any points, scoring just twice in that time. They are not at all expected to come away with anything on Monday evening, but they can use this as an opportunity to put together a strong performance to give them confidence going forward.

As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.

Northern Ireland Preview, Form and Standout Players

Northern Ireland Predicted Lineup (3-5-2): P. Charles; Ballard, McNair, Hume; Bradley, Devenney, S. Charles, Saville, Smyth; Price, D. Charles.

Northern Ireland have had a poor last few years in terms of European and World Cup qualification, but are starting to look up for Michael O’Neill’s men after a very successful Nations League campaign, where they topped a group of Luxembourg, Belarus, and Bulgaria, in turn earning promotion to League B for the 2026/27 campaign. Since, however, they have been brought back down to earth following a 1-1 home draw with Switzerland before a humbling 5-1 defeat at Sweden.

Isaac’s Price has been in superb form for O’Neill’s side of late, registering six goals in his last five international caps. He could be one to watch on Tuesday night, and he usually excels when playing nations of a similar calibre to Iceland.

Iceland Preview, Form and Standout Players

Iceland Predicted Lineup(4-2-3-1): Ólafsson; Ellertsson, Magnússon, Gunnarsson, Pálsson; Jóhannesson, Þórðarson; Haraldsson, Guðmundsson, Þórsteinsson; Guðjohnsen.

We expect a similar lineup to the one which experienced great success against Scotland on Friday evening, winning 3-1. Iceland seem to be bouncing back from their dismal display in their Nations League B, alongside Wales, Türkiye, and Montenegro, finishing third. They then played Kosovo in order to retain their League B status, however, fell both home and away against the Eastern European side, losing 5-2 on aggregate.

Chelsea legend Eidur Guðjohnsen’s son, Andri, has been superb for his country so far, at just 23 years old. He scored twice during their Nations League group, also bagging on Friday against Scotland to help his side to a 3-1 win. He also plays in Belgium domestically, where he scored five goals in 16 starts for KAA Gent, so definitely is one to watch on Tuesday.

Head-to-head Comparison

As aforementioned, these sides have clashed head-to-head twice, with Iceland winning both matches. Iceland defeated Northern Ireland away 3-0 in September 2006, before winning 2-1 at home to them 12 months later. This is not much to go off however, with the previous clash coming 18 years ago.
