On Sunday 11th May, Athletic Bilbao will be looking to put right their Europa League exit as they will host Alaves in the LaLiga. The game will be played at the San Mames Barria stadium, and Jose Munuera will referee the game.
For UK viewers, the game will be available to watch via Premier Sports and LaLigaTV UK.
Athletic Bilbao have only scored twice in their last five games.
Alaves have also struggled with goals, scoring just three in their last five games.
Alaves have conceded the most penalties this season.
Despite their defeat to Manchester United in the Europa League, denying them a spot in the final, Athletic Bilbao have still enjoyed a very good season in LaLiga.
The Basque side are fourth in the league, and could be set for Champions League football.
Oihan Sancet is top scorer for Bilbao this season, scoring fifteen times.
Athletic Bilbao Predicted Lineup: Simon; Lekue, Paredes, Vivian, Gorosabel; De Galarreta, Prados; Berenguer, Gomez, Williams; Guruzeta.
Alaves on the other hand, have struggled with their form this season, and are still very much within the relegation fight. The Spanish side currently sit 17th in the league, with just a three point gap to the relegation places.
Former Middlesborough Striker Kike Garcia is top scorer for Alaves this season, scoring twelve times.
Alaves Predicted Lineup: Sivera; Sanchez, Mourino, Garces, Tenaglia; Guevara, Blanco; Alena, Guridi, Vicente; Garcia.
In the past, Bilbao have dominated against Alaves, having to go back to 2020 to find the last time Bilbao lost. Games haven't been walkovers for Bilbao however, with there being a few draws and low scorelines nonetheless.
15/12/24- Alaves 1-1 Bilbao
16/03/24- Bilbao 2-0 Alaves
16/01/24- Bilbao 2-0 Alaves
22/09/23- Alaves 0-2 Bilbao
09/01/22- Alaves 0-0 Bilbao.
Looking at both sides position in the league table, and their recent head to head history, Bilbao are clearly the side to predict getting a win here.
Alaves are of course still playing for something, trying to survive relegation from LaLiga. However, with the home advantage Bilbao have, as well as their overall quality, Alaves are going to struggle to pick up any sort of result here.
On paper, this game looks like it should be an easy one to predict. Fourth place Bilbao have been in poor form recently, but still have been good this season which is why they sit in those Champions League places. Alaves are in the midst of a relegation battle, with just three points separating them from the bottom three. Therefore, Alaves could be up for it, but Bilbao will want to get back to winning ways, and will have the home advantage. I think Bilbao have enough to get the win, I think they win 2-0.
