This weekend sees Atletico Madrid’s title ambitions laid on the line for all to see. Already 12 points back from leaders Barcelona with fourth to play, and with a far inferior goal difference, they are more or less out of the equation already, and anything but a win would mathematically spell the end of their 2024/25 title hopes.
They host Real Sociedad on Saturday, with the away side coming into the fixtures off the back of four winless games. Though placed 11th, they are still in the midst of the battle for European football, sitting one point back from Conference League qualification, and three from a Europa League spot.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
This game will be broadcasted on La Liga Tv and Premier Sports 2, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 GMT on Saturday.
Atletico Madrid Predicted Lineup (4-4-2): Jan Oblak (GK); Javi Galan, Clement Lenglet, Robin Le Normand, Marcos Llorente; Conor Gallagher, Pable Barrios, Rodrigo De Paul, Giuliano Simeone; Antoine Griezmann, Alexander Sorloth.
After mounting their customary title charge around Christmas and New Year, Atletico’s form has cooled considerably, seeing them drop into their virtually perennial third position, behind La Liga’s big dogs Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Since January, Diego Simeone’s side have tasted defeat against Leganes, Getafe, Barcelona and Las Palmas, with three of those sides currently sitting in 13th or lower. Combined with a host of draws against the likes of Deportivo Alaves, Espanyol and Celta Vigo, they simply weren’t picking up points regularly enough to threaten a first league title since 2021.
However, recently they have seemed like themselves again, winning three of their last five. They are helped by the fact that their squad is virtually fully fit, with the only absentees being Julian Alvarez and Rodrigo Riquelme through suspension and injury respectively.
Real Sociedad Predicted Lineup (4-1-4-1): Alex Remiro (GK); Aihen Munoz, Nayef Aguerd, Jon Martin, Hamari Traore; Martin Zubimendi; Sergio Gomez, Pablo Marin, Brais Mendez, Takefusa Kubo; Mikel Oyarzabal.
Having finished in the top six every season since 2019/20, 2025 has represented a significant drop-off in stature for Real Sociedad. They have simply not been able to adequately replace the summer sales of Robin Le Normand (who will likely face them here) or Mikel Merino, and it shows in their form.
Winless in four, and winning just twice since the end of February, and getting knocked out of the Europa League and Copa Del Rey in the process, all the usual promise Sociedad tend to show towards the end of the season has so far failed to materialise this campaign.
With four games remaining, they have more than enough ability to steal a European football spot, but to reach it they will have to compete with an injury list that sees typical starters Alvaro Odriozola, Igor Zubeldia and Arsen Zakharyan out of commission.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad Prediction
With their top four spot set to be sealed with one more win, Atlwetico have little to play for, something that could play into Sociedad’s hands. The away side have a lot on the line, and will come into this game far more motivated than the hosts. While it may not guarantee them a win, they will certainly threaten to take all the points. We are backing both teams to score.
Atletico Madrid 1-2 Real Sociedad
If there was ever a game to end a winless streak, it is this one. Sociedad need all the points they can get if they are to travel Europe next season, and a win here would put down a marker for their rivals.
