Third plays second in the League of Ireland with just one point seperating Derry City and Bohemins going into Friday's clash at the Brandywell. Derry City are the league's form team over the past five matches with four wins, while Bohemians top the form table over the last 15 league matches with 32 points in that time (W10, D2, L3).
Despite the impressive form of both teams, they are in danger of getting left behind with league leaders Shamrock Rovers eight points clear at the top. Both Bohs and Derry have a game in hand on the Hoops but every game is must win given the leaders form and squad depth.
Last weekend was all about the FAI Cup with Bohemians and Derry racking up cricket scores against inferior opposition.
Key Betting Tip: BTTS @ 1.75
Derry City Predicted XI: Maher; Boyce, Connolly, Cann, Todd; Ferguson, Whyte; Diallo, Winchester, Duffy, Boyce
Bohemians Predicted XI: Chorazka, Cornwall, Byrne, Flores, Rooney, Morahan, McDonnell, Devoy, Clarke, James-Taylor, Tierney
Derry City sit third on 40 points after 24 games (W12, D4, L8). Bohemians are one point in front.
The Candystripes home form is strong with 7 wins from 12 (L3) while Bohemians boast the third best away form in the division (P12, W5, D1, L6).
Bohemians edged the most recent meeting in late May (teams play each other four times in Ireland) with Derry City shading the game before that. Bohemians haven't won in Derry since 2023.
Recent Head-to-Head Results:
20/05/25 Bohemians 1-0 Derry City (LOI)
21/02/25 Derry City 1-0 Bohemians (LOI)
11/10/24 Derry City 1-1 Bohemians (LOI)
04/10/24 Bohemians 0-2 Derry City (FAI Cup Final)
13/06/24 Bohemians 1-2 Derry City (LOI)
Derry City hold a clear advantage with three wins and one draw across the last four meetings with Bohemians. One of those wins came in the 2024 FAI Cup final, denying Bohemians a first major trophy since 2010.
Derry City Last 5 Matches:
Treaty United 1-5 Derry City
Sligo Rovers 2-0 Derry City
Derry City 7-2 Waterford
Derry City 3-0 Drogheda United
St.Patrick's Athletic 0-1 Derry City
Goals have been a plenty for Derry City. The 2-0 defeat in Sligo was damaging but their big win in the FAI Cup since should have them feeling good about themselves again.
Bohemians 5 Matches:
Killester 0-7 Bohemians
Bohemians 3-0 Galway United
St.Patrick's Athletic 0-0 Bohemians
Bohemians 1-1 Sligo Rovers
Bohemians 2-0 Shamrock Rovers
Having incredible gone all season without a draw, the Gypsies have now drawn two of their last three league games. Having lost nine times this season, it's no bad thing for Bohs to start turning defeats into draws but with Shamrock Rovers setting a hot pace at the top, every game is must win right now for the chasing pack.
As the recent H2H results show, this is generally always a very tight contest. Both teams have scored just once in the last three meetings but both attacks arrive in red hot form and with a potential draw only further serving Shamrock Rovers interests at the top, expect both teams to go for it at the Brandywell on Friday.
Both teams have defensive vulnerabilities so a high scoring draw could be the value bet here.
Football Park’s Best Bet: BTTS @2.1
Derry City winger Michael Duffy is arguably the best player in the league right now. The Derry native, who was once on the books of Celtic, has scored 8 goals and made 7 assists this season. Even at 30, his pace and trickery is still a full-backs worse nightmare, and given that Bohemians have a lack of natural full-backs, he could thrive in this fixture.
On the other flank, Gavin Whyte is another ball of speed and tricks, while ex-Hearts striker Liam Boyce has finally started to find his feet after a slow start following the move from Scotland.
Douglas James-Taylor has hit the ground running for Bohemians with the former Drogheda United loanee scoring a cracking strike from range against Galway on just his second appearance since moving from Walsall.
Bohs have been crying out for a striker of his quality and he could be set for a massive second half of the season given the creative quality teeing him up, with the likes of Dawson Devoy, Ross Tierney and Dayle Rooney supporting DJT.

Stadium Information: The Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium is located on Lone Moor Road in the Brandywell area of Derry, just outside the historic city walls and within easy walking distance of the city centre. Nestled between the Bogside and the River Foyle, the stadium has long been an iconic fixture in the city’s sporting and cultural landscape.
It was originally opened in 1928 and hosted its first football match in 1929, when Derry City played Glentoran. The ground has witnessed some of the most emotional and memorable moments in the club’s history, none more poignant than the 2018 renaming of the stadium in honour of former club captain Ryan McBride, who tragically passed away in 2017 at the age of just 27. His leadership and legacy are now permanently enshrined in the stadium's identity.
