Galway United welcomes Sligo Rovers to Eamonn Deacy Park in match week 16 of the Ireland Premiership 2025 on Friday evening.
Despite an excellent start to their 2025 campaign, a really tight knit league table sees Galway sit eighth out of ten teams. There are just six points between them and first place Shamrock Rovers though so a victory on Friday would no doubt see them leap up the table as eighth does not do them justice.
Sligo lost the first fixture of the season between these sides so they will want revenge here. They currently sit dead last in Ireland’s top tier despite one of their two victories coming against Shamrock. Although there are just six points between first and eighth, Sligo sit much further back on just nine points, 11 behind Friday’s hosts.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
Galway United host Sligo Rovers on Friday evening at Eamonn Deacy Park with the hosts looking to win their second successive match against the visitors this season.

You will be able to watch this match on Friday evening on League of Ireland TV.
Galway Predicted Lineup (3-5-2): Clarke; Slevin, Brouder, Byrne; Burns, Hurley, Hickey, McCormack, Esua; Dyer, Tollett.
Although they had an excellent start to the campaign, their recent form is what has seen them drop down the table. Losses in their last three to St Pat’s, Bohemian, and Waterford followed a draw and victory over Shelbourne and Drogheda.
Forward Moses Dyer has netted eight times so far and has scored all of Galway’s last five. If Galway are going to score, which is likely with Sligo managing just one clean sheet so far, he will be the man to do it.
Sligo Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Sargeant; Hutchinson, McElroy, Mahon, Lintott; Hayes, Wolfe; Fitzgerald, Elding, Kavanagh; Lomboto.
Sligo are without a win in five- losing three and drawing two. Their two draws both came from behind at home to both Drogheda and recently promoted Cork City. They also suffered three scoreless defeats 1-0, 2-0 and 3-0 to Bohemian, Shamrock and Derry respectively.
They may struggle in this one, picking up just four points away from home this season, with the worst defensive record in the division against the league’s top scorer. They may also require 19-year-old midfielder Owen Elding to be on form, as the youngster has amassed six goals this campaign and receives a lot of chances too, but has missed eight of them.
The last five matches between these sides have been very close. Both teams have won one each and drawn the other three times.
Recent Meetings:
Even if we stretch back to their last 10 meetings, the previous match was Galway’s only win over Sligo. The fixture also featured six draws. Both sides have a struggle to keep a clean sheet so there will definitely be goals in this match. On top of that, both teams come into this game on poor form and Sligo do tend to struggle to get into the game, with a majority of their goals being scored in the second half.
Therefore, we have gone for HT Galway as the best tip for this match.
