Match Details: July 6th, 2025 | Q2 Stadium | Major League Soccer Western Section | 1:30 AM GMT
Sunday’s MLS action sees Austin FC host Los Angeles FC as both look to move further into the top nine of the Western Section. With the top nine teams in each section qualifying for the end of season Championship play-off, both sides are desperate to put some breathing room between themselves and the chasing pack.
Austin come into this game with marginally better form, winning two and drawing one of their last five. LAFC, thanks to their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, arrive with three defeats in their last five, albeit with two of them coming against unfamiliar opposition.
Key Betting Tip: Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.93 odds represents excellent value based on the tip provided by our team of in-house tipsters.
Austin FC Predicted XI (4-4-2): Brad Stuver (GK); Guilherme Biro, Brendan Hines-Ike, Oleksandr Svatok, Mikkel Desler; Jon Gallagher, Besard Sabovic, Daniel Perreira, Osman Bukari; Owen Wolff, Brandon Vazquez.
Winning two of their last three, ninth placed Austin seem to have found something of a winning formula in recent weeks. In those two wins, full backs Desler and Biro both found the net, exemplifying Austin’s threat from the wings, while those victories also saw them concede just once.
With that being said, we are predicting an unchanged side from their battling defeat to Seattle Sounders last time out, with coach Nico Estevez looking to gel these players together, helping them to play as a unit.
Austin boast an almost clean bill of health, with striker Myrto Uzuni the only man absent thanks to a hamstring injury sustained at the end of last month. With almost a full strength squad, Austin have no excuses for a poor performance here.
LAFC Predicted XI (4-3-3): David Ochoa (GK); Artem Smolyakov, Eddie Segura, Aaron Long, Sergi Palencia; Marco Delgado, Igor Jesus, Timothy Tillman; Denis Bouanga, Jeremy Ebobisse, Javairo Dilrosun.
Though they failed to win a game at the Club World Cup, LAFC won’t be unhappy - they were comprehensively outmatched, and despite the form of Denis Bouanga and the quality of the now departed Olivier Giroud, knew they were never going to pose a serious threat.
As a result, the team will return from the competition in much the same mood as they departed - and being undefeated in their last nine MLS games, they will consider themselves favourites, both in terms of quality in their lineup, and in the momentum they have gathered from their recent domestic form.
In terms of absentees, LAFC will need to cope without defender Maxime Channot through a head injury, and first choice keeper Hugo Lloris, who is ruled out through an arm injury. They will also be without Olivier Giroud, who left the club to join LOSC Lille in France.
The two teams currently sit level on 26 points apiece, although LAFC have a far superior goal difference, sitting on +6 while Austin find themselves at -8.
As a result, both teams find themselves inside the top nine, with LAFC’s seventh placed standing two spots ahead of Austin. It is worth noting that the visitors boast a goal record twice as good as this weekend's hosts, netting 30 times to their opponents 15.
However, in defence there is very little to separate them, with LAFC’s 24 goals conceded bettered by Austin’s 23.
The rivalry between these two sides has historically been very closely contested, with three of the last four meetings being decided by a one goal margin or a draw.
However, LAFC hold the upper hand over the course of their last 12 meetings, winning seven to Austin’s three - very positive record that put the side in a positive mindset coming into the fixture once again.
However, their most recent meeting, back in March, saw Austin emerge victorious, thanks to a solitary goal from left back Biro 10 minutes in. Though LAFC boosted the possession, and took more shots, they couldn’t find a way to respond.
Recent Head to Head Meetings:
Austin FC Last Five Matches:
Very much hitting form at the right time, Austin have positioned themselves well to cement their spot in the top nine. Two or three victories from their next four or five games will see them comfortably occupy one of the play-off spots.
Their wins over Red Bulls and Colorado Rapids were impressive, particularly because they failed to dominate either game - their counter-attacking and ability to absorb long periods of pressure put them in the ideal position to capitalize both times.
While that approach didn’t work against Seattle Sounders last time out, Austin will still be buoyed by recent performances, and with LAFC generally favouring a possession heavy style, we could see a repeat of their two recent wins here.
LAFC Last Five Matches:
Though their Club World Cup form left a lot to be desired, LAFC return to a competition where they have lost just one of their last 10, and are one of the form sides in the league.
A hangover from the Club World Cup was to be expected, and as a result, LAFC had an underwhelming return to the competition with an underwhelming performance against Vancouver Whitecaps. However, they have now had over a week to readjust to their competition, and will be chomping at the bit to return to winning ways here.
Though they are missing Oliver Giroud and Hugo Lloris, their squad is still strong, and with Dennis Bouanga arguably the most in form player in the MLS right now, they know they are always in with a chance of three points, regardless of opposition.
Our advanced algorithm analyzes over 200 data points to generate the prediction that the game between Austin FC and LAFC will see over 2.5 goals scored. The model factors current form, head to head records, player availability and tactical matchups.
Football Park’s best bet: Over 2.5 Goal @ 1.92. Our team of in-house betting tipsters have predicted that due to Austin’s recent upturn inform, they will be the side to emerge with a victory here in a game which will see both teams score.
Daniel Pereira (Austin FC): The midfield general with the Texas based side, Pereira has been all action so far this campaign - throwing himself into tackles, breaking up opposition attack, and capable of leading them out of danger (he boasts the most accurate passes per 90), Pereira is crucial in this Austin system.
Brad Stuver (Austin FC): Capable of pulling brick wall performances out of the bag, Stuver is one of the finest stoppers in the league. Leading the way for high claims and accurate long balls, as well as not conceding a penalty yet this season, he strikes fear into the hearts of opposing strikers.
Denis Bouanga (LAFC): With eight goals and four assists in the MLS alone, Bouanga is the most feared forward in the league outside of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. His rapid pace, frequent shooting and strong build make him a nightmare for defenders, and it is usually a matter of when, not if, he gets his goal.
**Marco Delgado (LAFC): **The experienced head in the Los Angeles midfield, Delgado has been the leading man in the centre of the park. Though short in stature, it is in attack where he thrives - threading through balls in behind the defence, and boasting a high number of turnovers per game, Delgado can turn the game on its head in the blink of an eye.
