Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Predictions, Lineups & Betting Tips
The Premier League is finally back as the summer break comes to an end. There are many exciting fixtures this weekend, and here, we will give you everything you need to know about Sunday’s lunchtime kick-off, as Chelsea host Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge as the newly-crowned World Champions look to hit the ground running.
Key Betting Tip: Chelsea to Win 1.48 odds on Kwiff represents excellent value based on the tip provided by our team of in-house tipsters.
Chelsea Predicted XI: Robert Sánchez; Marc Cucurella, Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Reece James; Enzo Fernández, Moisés Caicedo; Jamie Gittens, Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto; João Pedro.
Crystal Palace Predicted XI: Dean Henderson; Marc Guéhi, Maxence Lacroix, Chris Richards; Tyrick Mitchell, Daichi Kamada, Adam Wharton, Daniel Muñoz; Eberechi Eze, Ismaila Sarr; Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Enzo Maresca is expected to give Premier League debuts for Pedro and Gittens, although the former did feature in the back-end of the Club World Cup in July. Nico Jackson will miss the game through suspension, however, he is not thought to be at the club for much longer, Benoit Badiashille, Omari Kellyman, Romeo Lavia, and Wesley Fofana will all miss the game through short-term injuries, while Levi Colwill suffered an ACL injury during the Blues’ first training session back after their short break, so he will be out until April.
Oliver Glasner has been able to keep all of his key players, with them firing during pre-season too. Kamada is a doubt, but is thought to be fit in time. Meanwhile, Caleb Kporha, Chadi Riad, Cheick Doucoure, Eddie Nketiah, and Matheus Franca will all be sidelined for Sunday’s clash.
After winning the Club World Cup in July, Maresca’s side only had a short break before getting back to it. It will be another heavy season for the Blues this year, with them also competing in the Champions League. The Italian boss finally seems to have unlocked his players’ full potential, and Chelsea have the potential to enjoy a successful season at Stamford Bridge. They are being eased into the league this campaign, with their opening four matches all being held in London.
Palace meanwhile, come into the game having enjoyed arguably the best period in the history, winning the FA Cup and now the Community Shield. Because of this, they will also play in Europe this season. One worry for the Eagles, however, is that they have not strengthened much over the summer, bringing in just two squad players, in comparison to Chelsea’s seven, with potential for two more.
This fixture has given us absolute thrillers in the past, however it is also very one-sided. The Blues have won 20 of their last 26 meetings with Palace. The Eagles’ last win came 17 games ago, dating back to 2017. One stat surrounding the fixture is that both teams have scored in the last four games.
Recent Head-to-Head Results:
Their last meeting came back in January, with Palmer scoring the opener after 14 minutes, and Mateta equalising the score in the 82nd, as the match ended 1-1 at Selhurst Park.
Chelsea Last 5 Matches:
Chelsea looked scary during the knockout stages of FIFA’s newly-expanded competition, and they carried that form into their two friendlies, putting six past Leverksuen and Milan – two very well respected European sides. Champions League football is now an expectation for the Blues. Their rebuild is starting to take shape, they are here to play, and they will let Palace know about it.
Crystal Palace Last 5 Matches:
We got to see Palace cause a shock last weekend against Liverpool. But fair play to Glasner and his team, they knew what to do and executed their game plan perfectly. If they do the same on Sunday, we could be in store for a very exciting London derby to kick-off the new season.
Our advanced algorithm analyses over 200 data points to generate these predictions with confidence in a Chelsea victory. The model factors in current form, head-to-head records, player availability, and tactical matchups. Home advantage, a fiery team, new signings, Chelsea are in an excellent position to start the season with maximum points. Palace are by far not the easiest team to beat, but if the Blues are eyeing up a title contending campaign, they will need to win this game.
Football Park’s Best Bet: Chelsea to Win @ 1.48 - Our team of in-house betting tipsters have predicted a huge Blues win in this fixture. Recent form suggest confidence in a home victory.
Cole Palmer (Chelsea): His two-goal Player of the Match performance in the Club World Cup Final certainly shut out any doubters in Cole’s corner. The Chelsea playmaker looks to have got his rhythm back and will be eyeing up a campaign similar to the one in 2023/24.
João Pedro (Chelsea): After heading to the States during his family vacation, Pedro played an outstanding cameo in the latter stages of the tournament. He put the cherry on top in the final, and even found two wonder strikes against Fluminense. It has been an incredible start to his Chelsea career, and he will look to start this season strongly.
Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace): The French international had a fine pre-season before also netting two penalties at Wembley to secure two trophies in just a few months for an Eagles side who had seen no silverware in 30 years.
Referee: Darren England. The regular, seasoned Premier League referee has become accustomed to officiating some big clashes over his 390-match career. The English official has handed out an average of 2.8 yellow cards per game, although in his 20 fixtures last Premier League campaign, this number increased to 4.4.
