The Ecuadorian first division heads to the capital where two title contenders will fight it out in Quito at the Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado. The match kicks off at 01:00 BST on Thursday, June 19, and will not be available to watch in the UK.
LDU sits third in the league standings, and head into the second half of the season six points of leaders Independiente Del Valle. LDU recently booked their place in the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores, where they will face 2024 winners Botafogo.
They take on Barcelona SC, who sits three points above LDU and can draw level on points with the league leaders with a win on Thursday. Barcelona also took part in the Copa Libertadores, however won just one game and finished bottom of their group.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
LDU Predicted Lineup (3-4-3): Dominguez; Quinonez, Mina, Allala; Ramirez, Cornejo, Gruezo, Quintero; Alvarado, Estrada, Alzugaray.
The home side will be without centre-back Ricardo Adé due to his international commitments with Haiti in the Gold Cup.
If we go beyond LDU’s last three games, they suffered a draw with Libertad before losing 3-1 to Universidad Catolica. Since then, they have won their last three, ending their Copa group in style with 3-0 win over Central Cordoba before winning their last two games late on against Tecnico and Vinotinto.
The former of those two late wins were scored by Adé who has also been a stalwart in LDU’s defence this season so he will be a big miss for Tiago Nunes’ side. Goals in this side do get shared around, with star forward Michael Estrada leading the way on four goals.
Barcelona Predicted Lineup (4-4-2): Arruabarrena; Carabali, Campi, Arreaga, Castillo; Corozo, Arroyo, Almeida, Oyola; Cortez, Parrales.
Gustavo Vallecilla will be out for this game after acquiring five yellow cards.
Form for Barcelona has been a recent struggle. Inconsistencies have found themselves coming into this game struggling for goals and points. Four points in their past four league games and in the mix of a poor Copa Libertadores campaign has not helped
Miguel Parrales will be hoping to start against the club he had a loan spell with in 2024, where he could not find his feet, scoring no goals and being benched in most games. Fast forward to now and he has featured in 13 of their 15 games, leading the scoring charts with seven goals.
These clubs have a long history of going head-to-head in this competition, both ever-present in the top-flight since 2008. In recent times, it has been tough fixture to call, with both sides picking up four victories in the last 10 meetings, with two being stalemates.
Recent Meetings:
This is quite a tough match to call, with LDU in a better vein of form, but Barcelona having better results in recent meetings. But the team on better form should be getting over the line here, with home advantage.
Therefore, our team of betting professionals have gone for LDU to Win as the best value tip for this match. Odds on HighBet of 1.476.6 will mean a stake of £10 has a potential return of £14.70.
