After winning their first major trophy last season, Crystal Palace land on the brink of European qualification for the first time in 27 years. After a 1-0 win at a Selhurst Park stadium hosting European football for the first time ever last week, they face a trip to Fredrikstad in Norway as they look to secure a safe passage into the main draw taking place on Friday.
Key Betting Tip: Both Teams to Score at 1.9 odds on Kwiff represents excellent value based on the tip provided by our algorithm.
Fredrikstad Predicted XI: Martin Børsheim; Solomon Owusu, Maxwell Woledzi, Ulrik Fredriksen; Daniel Eid, Leonard Owusu, Patrick Metcalfe, Oskar Øhlenschlæger, Stian Stray Molde; Emil Holten, Sondre Sørløkk.
Crystal Palace Predicted XI: Dean Henderson; Chris Richards, Marc Guéhi, Maxence Lacroix, Daniel Muñoz; Adam Wharton, Will Hughes, Borna Sosa; Justin Devenny, Ismaila Sarr, Jean-Philippe Mateta.
It will be a slight adjustment in the system used by Andreas Hagen, with his side having to be more attacking, however, we don’t predict any major changes. The team have had a week to prepare for this second leg, with their league fixture suspended on Saturday.
As for the Eagles, they head to Norway knowing any draw or better will be enough to see them through to League Phase. Jefferson Lerma is expected to make way for Richards on Thursday, who has been impressing recently in the league.
In terms of injuries and suspensions, the Norwegian outfit will be without Valdemar Birksø, while Oliver Glasner will be missing Caleb Kporha, Chadi Riad, Cheick Doucouré, Daichi Kamada, Eddie Nketiah, and Matheus Franca for the trip to Northern Europe.
Two years ago, Fredrikstad weren’t even in the first division, now they have a chance to create some club history. They are 10th in the Eliteserien, and are mid table, floating six points adrift of safety, while are just seven points off the top four.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have a steady start to the 2025/26 Premier League season, securing two draws in two games, but with the loss of Eberechi Eze, this season is going to be tougher than the last.
With these sides very rarely getting an opportunity to play European football, the first leg was the first and only time these sides have taken to the field together. Mateta scored the only goal of the leg, 10 minutes into the second period to give Palace an important, albeit slender, lead to travel to Norway with. It is worth noting that history is on Palace’s side in this matchup, with English teams winning seven of the last 10 on Norwegian soil, with the last English side to lose being Chelsea, in a 4-2 defeat to Viking in 2002.
Fredrikstad Last 5 Matches:
It hasn’t been an easy European campaign so far, with Fredrikstad scoring just once in their three matches. They are going to have to score double that if they want to beat Palace on Thursday.
Crystal Palace Last 5 Matches:
Palace have had an unbeaten record to their 2025/26 competitive campaign so far, conceding just once in the domestic league and continental matches. They do struggle to score, but it will be the defence that could prove the difference.
Our advanced algorithm analyses over 200 data points to generate these predictions with confidence in a Both Teams to Score victory. The model factors in current form, head-to-head records, player availability, and tactical matchups.
Football Park’s Best Bet: BTTS @ 1.9 - Recent form suggests confidence in a high scoring game. With a lot on the line for both sides we expect a very entertaining and end to end thriller. Fredrikstad will not want to go out on a limb and will do whatever they can to force a victory or extra-time. Meanwhile, Palace can’t exactly sit safe on a 1-0 lead, so they will also have to be attacking to attempt to at least double their lead, which could leave them vulnerable at the back with the lack of European experience and everyone expecting them to win.
Sondre Sørløkk (Fredrikstad): The 28-year-old has been involved in seven goals domestically this term. He has also been trusted to help lead the line throughout these important matches. Will he finally repay the faith on Thursday?
Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace): The french forward hasn’t kicked off the campaign as many have expected. Nonetheless, he is a lethal striker, who also found the Eagles’ first and only European goal in 27 years, and he will look to help confirm a long-term stay in European competition this season.
