AS Roma
Rangers have had a tough start to the season, both domestically and in the Europa League as they sit rock bottom out of the 36 teams, and are onto their third manager so far already this season. They will be looking to put all that trouble behind them as they host a rather rocky AS Roma side suggested by their recent form, in an encounter that is expected not to dissapoint. Rangers are coming off the back of a 3-1 defeat to fierce rivals Celtic in their League Cup Semi-Final affair, with Roma also being defeated in their previous game at the hands of AC Milan which ended 1-0.
Key Betting Tip: Roma to win and Under 3.5 goals at 2.40 represents excellent value based on the tip provided by our team of in-house tipsters.
Rangers Predicted XI (3-4-2-1) Butland, Djiga, Souttar, Cornelius, Taveneir, Raskin, Diomande, Meghoma, Danilo, Aasgaard, Chermiti
AS Roma Predicted XI (3-5-2) Svilar, Mancini, N'Dicka, Hermoso, Celik, Kone, Cristante, El Aynaoui, Wesley, Soule, Dybala
As recent form suggests, Rangers may be slightly finding their footing under new boss Danny Rohl, winning both of their league games with him stepping in as head coach, beating Kilmarnock 3-1 at home, and Hibernian 1-0 away from home, but losing 3-1 to Celtic in the cup after extra time more recently. Replicating their league form in the Europa League will be a very tough task, as the quality of Roma outweighs most of the competition in the Scottish First Divison.
Roma currently sit in fourth place in Serie A, winning seven of their 10 league games, but have lost four times in their last seven games, with two of them coming in the Europa League, both at home. Fans of the Italian giants shouldn't be too worried however, as their last defeat coming to Viktoria Plzen was nothing short of a freak defeat, with the away side scoring both of their shots on target, whilst only accumilating an Xg of 0.16. But goals have been hard to come by, and they sit in 23rd place with just one win in three Europa League games.
It'll be the first time these sides face eachother in their history, so both sides will want to come out on top, as it gives a slight bit of insentive to take the three points.
Rangers Recent Matches:
Rangers are a bit up and down regarding their recent form, but as touched on earlier with their new managers coming in, moral and team spirits have clearly been boosted, as they haven't lost in normal time since Rohl's arrival, scoring five goals in three games. Many would write Rangers off, but they could spring a surpise and catch Roma out.
AS Roma Recent Matches
Roma have also had a sort of yoyo-like form recently, but have only won twice in five games, and don't seem to be scoring as freely as they would like, especially with that shock result against Viktoria Plzen. This is a game that could ultimately go either way, but with the dominance displayed usually by this Roma side, we predict a low scoring affair, considering Roma have only conceded five goals in 10 league games, but for them to pull through and edge a victory in Scotland.
Our advanced algorithm analyses over 200 data points to generate these predictions with a high chance of a low scoring affair, with Roma to win. The model factors in current form, head-to-head records, player availability, and tactical matchups.
Football Park's Best Bet: Roma to win and Under 3.5 goals @ 2.40 - Our team of in-house experts has priced Roma to win and under 3.5 goals, as every Roma game this season has not seen over 3.5 goals, with every game ending 1-0 or 2-1 to either side. Roma have been shakey recently, but only usually at the hands of elite teams in Serie A, and we believe they can get a result against a Rangers team that are rebuilding moral.
Matias Soule - The Roma attacker has been in fine form this season, and has contributed to half of their Serie A goals, accumilating three goals and two assists with an average rating of 7.49 according to FotMob. He's in the top 12% of players for chances created, and has been a real starlet in this Roma side at just 22 years old. Soule is coming off the back of a great season with Roma after being signed from Frosinone after he spent just one season there, scoring 11 goals.
James Tavernier - If someone can turn a game on its head, it's Tavernier. He's been electric consitently for years at Rangers, and at 34 years old, he enters his eleventh season at the former Scottish Champions. Taverneir provides not just plenty of goals and assists, but overall leadership and all-round technical ability at right wing back, which could result with him being the thorn in Roma's rather solid defence on Thursday night.
