The first international break of the 2025/26 season is over and top-tier European football returns. Here, we have match 4 of the Premier League where Crystal Palace returns to action, as they host an ambitious Sunderland side looking for their third victory already of the campaign. The hosts, however, will be eager to continue their run as one of only three unbeaten sides so far this season.
Key Betting Tips: BTTS No at 1.72 odds on Kwiff represents excellent value based on the tip provided by our algorithm.
Crystal Palace Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Dean Henderson; Marc Guehi, Maxence Lacroix, Chris Richards; Tyrick Mitchell, Will Hughes, Jefferson Lerma, Daniel Munoz; Daichi Kamada, Justin Devenny; Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Due to their start to the season, Oliver Glasner may not want to change his side too much. They have looked very strong, especially defensively, so far throughout their first three matches, with Guehi, Lacroix and Richards making a hard to dismantle trio.
They will be forced into two changes, however, with Adam Wharton injured, so Lerma could enter the fray in his place. Ismaila Sarr is also out, so Devenny should slot right in beside Kamada. Chadi Riad, Cheick Doucoure, and Eddie Nketiah will also miss out on the squad through injury.
Sunderland Predicted XI (4-3-3): Robin Roefs; Reinildo, Omar Alderete, Nordi Mukiele, Trai Hume; Noah Sadiki, Granit Xhaka, Habib Diarra; Enzo Le Fee, Eliezer Mayenda, Simon Adingra.
Regis Le Bris will also look to keep a similar lineup. Mukiele is expected to stay in central defence with Alderete while Dan Ballard is still out. Le Fee could keep his spot in the front three with Mayenda, while Adingra could take the final spot in favour of Chemsdine Talbi.
The Black Cats also obtain many more injuries, with Ballard joined on the sidelines by Ajibola Alese, Dennis Cirkin, Leo Hjelde, Luke O’Nien, and Romaine Mundle.
The Eagles have started the campaign unbeaten, with one win and two draws, with their five points enough to see them to eighth place so far, with potential to rise into the top four with a win on Saturday.
As for Sunderland, they have impressed many so far, losing only to Burnley, while defeating both West Ham and Brentford either side of the loss. Their six points see them in fifth at the moment, above the likes of Man United, Man City and rivals Newcastle.
Recent head-to-head doesn’t really play a factor here, with the last time these sides meeting being back in 2017 – the last time Sunderland featured in the top-flight. Overall head-to-head is very tight with the sides winning three each, with two draws in the last eight meetings.
The last time these teams met was February 2017, where the Eagles were thumped on home soil 4-0 by the Black Cats. The nostalgia comes flowing back looking back at this result, with Jermain Defoe scoring brace that day, while Adnan Januzaj added two assists.
Crystal Palace Last 5 Matches:
Glasner’s side have conceded just one goal in all competitions so far this season, and they will continue to be a force at the back for the remainder of the season.
Sunderland Last 5 Matches:
The Black Cats have been very strong at home this season but away seems likely to be an issue for them this season. They have started well but will need to earn points away from home too if they are to secure safety as soon as possible.
Our advanced algorithm analyses over 200 data points to generate these predictions with confidence in a BTTS No victory. The model factors in current form, head-to-head records, player availability, and tactical matchups.
Football Park’s Best Bet: BTTS No @ 1.72 - Recent form suggests confidence in a win to nil game. Palace have been a rock at the back this season, and Sunderland clearly did not travel well to Burnley a few weeks ago, failing to score at Turf Moor. Furthermore, their five goals so far this season domestically, have over performed their xG drastically, and with the quality Palace possess at the back, this will not continue at Selhurst Park, where Palace haven’t lost at in a competitive fixture since February.
Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace): Guehi has been ever so loyal to the Eagles, despite his move to Liverpool collapsing on deadline day. His form hasn’t taken a hit either, as he has continued to lead the backline strongly and will know not to underestimate this Sunderland side.
Granit Xhaka (Sunderland): The 32-year-old’s experience will come in clutch a lot for this young squad this season. He is still a very talented midfielder, proved by his excellent assist to set up the winner against Brentford two weeks ago.
Referee: Thomas Bramall (ENG). The vastly experienced English official has overseen north of 250 matches in his career. He has expereince globally too, having dipped in and out of the J-League over the past few seasons. He tends to be a slightly more lenient official, handing out just 2.58 yellow cards per game on average.
