After completing the first international break of the 2025/26 season, Premier League football is finally back. This weekend, Newcastle are set to take on Wolves amongst the Saturday 3pm kick offs.
Both sides have severely struggled in the opening to their campaigns, with Wolves having not even picked up a single point yet. However, there is still plenty of time to turn things around.
Key Betting Tip: Both Teams to Score offers good value @ 1.88.
Newcastle Predicted XI: Pope, Livramento, Burn, Botman, Schär, Trippier, Tonali, Guimaraes, Barnes, Wissa, Elanga
Newcastle have three players who are unavailable for selection for this game. Anthony Gordon is currently suspended after he received a straight red card against Liverpool two weeks ago. Furthermore, both Jacob Ramsey and Joelinton are suffering from injuries.
Wolves Predicted XI: Sá, T. Gomes, Agbadou, S. Bueno, Tchatchoua, J. Gomes, Andre, R. Gomes, Arias, Hwang, Munetsi
Wolves have a list of four players consumed by injuries. Enso Gonzalez, Hugo Bueno, Jørgen Strand Larsen and Ki-Jana Hoever all make up this list.
Newcastle have had an extremely poor start to the Premier League season by their standards. Of course the loss of Alexander Isak has in no way helped them, but the Magpies have only picked up two points from their opening three matches. Eddie Howe’s men endured two 0-0 draws to both Aston Villa on opening day and Leeds United in their most recent game. However, they also suffered a heartbreaking defeat to reigning champions Liverpool in between. In that game, Newcastle came from 2-0 down to level the score 2-2 in the 88th minute, but then in the 100th minute of the match, 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha netted a winning goal for Liverpool to end the affair 3-2. The North East outfit now occupy 17th place in the table and need to pick up wins soon.
Wolves had an even more miserable start to their campaign. Vitor Pereira’s men are still yet to pick up a single point in the Premier League after three games and have conceded the joint-most goals with eight in total. They have played Manchester City, Bournemouth and Everton, where they lost all three. Man City was especially bleak, as the West Midlands side suffered a 4-0 defeat. However, last game did look more promising for Wolves, as they managed to score two goals past Everton. The problem lies defensively, with them still conceding three goals in that game. Obviously there is still loads of time left in this season, but if Wolves don’t start improving and picking up points, relegation could be a huge threat to them.
As implied by previous league positions, Newcastle are fairly dominant in this fixture. They have won each of the last three affairs and Wolves haven’t managed to beat Saturday’s opponents since October 2021.
