5 Transfers that you may have Missed this Summer
With a lot of media attention on the European Championships over the last month, there are quite a few signings that have slipped under the radar. Everyone knows that Leny Yoro has signed for Manchester United and that Joao Palhinha has gone to Bayern Munich, but did you know about Ipswich’s new young talent, or that a legendary Premier League winner has just made a move to Celtic? Here are 5 signings that you may have missed.
The Tractor Boys’ fourth signing of the window, Liam Delap joined the side for an initial £15m from Manchester City which has a potential to rise to £20m should the conditions be met. The 21-year-old is the son of former Stoke City player Rory Delap.

Southampton also looked to add Delap to their roster, and even had a bid accepted from the champions of England, but the forward chose to join Ipswich instead, telling the club’s website that he was looking forward to play under Kieran McKenna.
Delap has made two Premier League appearances for Manchester City, but has spent most of his career out on loan with Stoke and most recently Hull, in the Championship. Last season he scored eight goals in 32 appearances. He has also been capped by the England U21s side and scored on his debut against Luxembourg.
Former Leicester City goalkeeper and captain Kasper Schmeichel joined Celtic on a one-year deal after leaving Belgian side Anderlecht this summer. He spent one year in France with Nice and then one in Belgium after leaving Leicester in 2022.
🆕 Velkommen, Kasper!

🇩🇰 Danish Euro 2024 captain and goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, joins #CelticFC on a one-year deal - subject to international clearance. ✍️#KasperAnnounced🍀
The 37-year-old led Denmark to the Round of 16 in this summer’s Euros, making his 105th appearance for the team against Germany. His most successful stint came during his 11 years at Leicester, in which he won the Premier League and the FA Cup with the Foxes.
He’ll be joining back up with his former boss at Leicester, Brendan Rogers, who is currently in his second stint as Celtic boss. Schmeichel will be replacing his former teammate Joe Hart in goal who retired this summer. Schmeichel and Hart were both at Manchester City together.
In 2022, Manchester City signed a promising Spanish full-back from Anderlecht for roughly £11m. After two years and just 18 Premier League appearances, Sergio Gomez left Manchester quietly to join Real Sociedad. There wasn’t a lot of talk around the transfer, maybe because City didn’t want people to know how badly they’d messed up.

All the best, Sergio! 🩵
He has made his move to Real Sociedad for £8.4m which is a loss on the amount that City paid to sign him, however should the Spanish side move him on, the English champions will get some of the sell-on fee.
Now nearly 24, Sergio Gomez has really struggled to get regular first team football at the highest level, spending time in three of Europe’s top leagues. His form for the Spain youth teams was incredible, but he’ll need to find some club form if he is looking to break into the talented Spanish first team.
I’m surprised that this move hasn’t earned a lot of attention, especially considering how much he got last summer, when he joined Marseille from newly promoted Sheffield United. Iliman Ndiaye was excellent in United’s Championship promotion season, so many were surprised when the club let him go for £20m.

Last season wasn’t the best for the Senegalese striker. He netted just four times in 46 appearances for the French side as they made it to the Europa League semi-finals.
Everton boss Sean Dyche said that Ndiaye would “be a really positive addition to our squad”. The Toffees have struggled with strikers as of late, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury record and Beto’s poor form in front of goal causing the team to struggle last season. Everton fans will be hoping that this could turn their fortunes around.
Women’s football doesn’t get as much coverage as men’s does, but you’d still expect one of the Lionesses’ best players to get some media attention when she moves to the WSL. Lucy Bronze has played for some of the best clubs in Europe, including Manchester City, Lyon and most recently Barcelona.

She joined the Spanish giants in 2022 and made 70 appearances for them in all competitions. She has also made 125 appearances for the Lionesses since 2013, and is generally considered one of the best English women’s footballers ever.
Her contract with Barcelona expired at the end of June, and she signed a two-year contract with the Women’s Super League champions Chelsea in July. Bronze has said that she is “really excited” in England.
