Safe to say that it has been a whirlwind of a time for connections at Morecambe Football Club. There were questions as to whether Morecambe would even be a team last summer but the consistent work from the Community Trust and the eventual sale from previous owners Bond Group meant that fans would still have a club to support come this season. Unfortunately, as far as events on the pitch are concerned, this joy has been short lived. We dive into the current situation at Morecambe FC and why fans have been left furious with the recent situation.
The club was taken over by current owners Panjab Warriors in August 2025, much to the delight of the footballing world and everyone associated with the club, seeing them avoid extinction. They replaced Jason Whittingham and his Bond Group that had previously been at the helm, and his reluctance to sell the club left many concerned that they would be removed from the National League. Panjab Warriors were able to get the deal over the line before the deadline for teams registering for the league for the coming season in June. With their presence has come drastic change, ranging from personnel off the pitch to those on it.
Ashvir Singh Johal becomes the youngest manager in the top five tiers of English football! 🤯

A notable addition was the appointment of manager Ashvir Singh Johal, making history as the first Sikh manager in Britain. Though quite the statement, this decision came with a risk. It was to be his first senior managerial role, having the responsibility to construct a completely new Morecambe side that would be expected to compete in the National League. With risk may come reward, but I will let this comment from a Morecambe supporter inform you as to how things are going for Johal right now.
The Shrimps currently sit 22nd in the National League table, just one point adrift of league stragglers Gateshead FC. We can sympathize with the fact that it is a completely new-look side, and that the manager was not given a pre-season. Yet, there is little to no excuse for why there has been no sign of improvement in the side past the halfway point of the campaign, to the point where fans are going into games expecting their side to lose.
What has boiled their frustrations further is the lack of accountability taken by the manager, who impressively gets away with repeating the same nonsense in every post-match interview. Whether it be " we need to show more aggression " or "we need to take our chances, " one thing is for certain: the fans are no longer buying it and calls for Johal to resign are getting louder with every passing game. Safe to say that the manager did himself no favours when speaking to the media at the start of the season. His claim that Morecambe would be "one of the best footballing sides in England in four months" would turn out to be nothing short of a disastrous claim exactly four months on.

You would like to think that getting outplayed by a team in the division below would be the nail in the coffin for Johal's disastrous first attempt at management. Quite remarkably, it seems unlikely that he will be out the door anytime soon. Having been brought in by the Panjab Warriors consortium, the decision lies with them to decide his future with the club. The established targets at the start of the season were to stabilize the club, with the goal of achieving or working towards EFL status. Whilst it is quite apparent that this goal is not being achieved, it makes you wonder why action has not already been taken, or if any action will be taken on behalf of Johal.
Do the right thing @AshvirJohal. Resign.

This season should’ve been about optimism & revival. Instead we’ve lost all our long-standing staff & chairmen, sacked our legendary manager - in exchange for THIS.
You’re ruining this club & these players’ chances of future clubs. https://t.co/OYk1Vil4ho
Former Morecambe manager Derek Adams was given the boot by the current owners in the summer, despite the Scotsman showing his loyalty to the club while they were in turmoil. Adams had previously led Morecambe to League One promotion in the 2020/2021 season and was serving his third stint as manager at the club after being re-appointed in June 2024. For someone who knows the football club inside and out, you'd think that the owners would make the smart decision to keep him around while going through drastic changes. Experience, notable success, and loyalty to the club-everything that Adams possesses that Johal lacks-and it is no surprise that Morecambe is in trouble.
Saying 'Get Adams in' is all well and good, but with no sign of a managerial change, smart business in the transfer window could see optimism change around the club. A lot of the playing personnel brought into the club were from the free agent market, some players who had been without a club for good reason. That aside, Morecambe turned to the loan market and brought in the likes of Maldini Kacurri from Arsenal. While a very intriguing prospect, it was just the second opportunity for senior first-team minutes for the 20-year-old, the first being a spell at League Two Bromley where he made just three appearances.
Morecambe knew they would be up against it this season, and recruiting inexperienced youngsters has proven not to be the solution for a dogfight for Johal. If they wish to put up a stronger battle in the second half of the season, then the recruitment of seasoned veterans with EFL experience may be the way to go. Having played above the National League level and eager to play regular football, it makes sense for the owners to do the right thing and invest wisely in the January window, having failed to do so since taking over at the club.
