From Unpaid to In Charge: National League Star Appointed Director of Football

The Endless Story of a National League Player Takes a Huge Twist

Just when you thought you'd heard the end of Harvey Bradbury, the social media phenomenon has done it again. The story of Bradbury chasing his wages seemed to go radio silent in the past days, so it was only right that a huge twist to the story was delivered.

The Englishman was announced as the director of football at Waterlooville AFC, a club re-established this year after being lost to a merger over 25 years ago. It doesn't take a genius to know who said the merger would be, nor does it take one to see why Bradbury was so keen to get his foot in the door at the club. We can feel the tension in the air from here.

A Touch of Responsibility

The new club on the block comes with prestigious history, and local fans have been quick to show support for The Ville's social media page. As for the man steering the ship, his responsibilities have changed quite significantly. Gone are the days of slagging people off on the football pitch (you can do it from the sidelines instead) and firing in the goals. Instead, Bradbury will be overseeing the club's football strategy, transfer recruitment business, establishing an identity, and other important aspects that keep the engine running. By no means is Bradbury short of experience when it comes to the football department.

Stints all over the EFL, including Oxford United and Millwall, as well as being a veteran of the non-league game, set the forward up with quite the resume coming into this new role. Quite the turnaround in fortune for a man who was being ignored by former club Havant & Waterlooville just the other day. The last update we heard on the story was on Wednesday evening, and it didn't exactly suggest that an arrangement was any closer.

A Look To The Future

Waterlooville AFC is set to make a return to the pitch for the 2026/2027 season. The incentive for this comeback is influenced by the desperate situation at the club that took them over. A side once renowned for fighting for National League football, even achieving this status in the 2018/2019 season, now sits second bottom in the Southern Premier Division and looks all the more likely to fall into the eighth tier of football for the first time in the club's history.

Bradbury and company have an opportunity to produce one of football's biggest shithousery storylines, biting the hand that once fed them. From merged to mergers, this would be a storyline for the ages. If the reaction on X is anything to go by, I think that the majority audience will be in support of the new man in charge.

There are many questions that have remained unanswered from this story. Will Bradbury ever be paid? Have his playing days come to an end? Will I ever get away from covering his life story? One thing that we hope is that this role doesn't change the Bradbury we have seen in recent weeks. In other news, the Waterlooville derby may just be one of the greatest fixtures of all time.
