Sky Sports pundit and ex-Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has become unanimously hated amongst the Chelsea fanbase for his constant digs in recent years, which have become well-publicised since the BlueCo consortium takeover in 2022.
From calling out players, money spent and even trophies won, the 47-year-old is showing no hints at backing off and accepting that some of his words may have been proven wrong.
It begs the question, will his obsession ever end?
If we head to the start of the new Blues ownership, fronted by Behdad Egbali and Todd Boehly, you'll remember it turned into something of a car crash within a few months of the season getting underway.
€612m had been spent on players in one season alone - smashing records previously set by a distance and then some - and yet Chelsea tumbled from a club that were Champions of Europe just two years before into a bottom-half side under Graham Potter's infamous tenure.

Criticism was, understandably, rife and widespread, with almost every pundit in the football world having a field day, taking pleasure at the end of what had been a notoriously and irritatingly successful trophy-winning 19 years under Roman Abramovich, one that had changed the English footballing landscape forever.
However, the Blues did still make their way through to the quarter-finals of the 2022/23 Champions League after knocking out Borussia Dortmund - who only lost the German league title on the final day that year - in the previous round, setting up a tie with Real Madrid.
Carragher, when asked for his predictions on the whole knockout stage, simply said Real Madrid beat Chelsea "because Todd Boehly hasn't got a clue what he's doing." That was it. No tactical output, fitness or injury concerns, simply that the sporting director and co-owner was in his mind not fit for the job, and as such the Blues couldn't compete.
In the end though, the comments were allowed to slide as Madrid comfortably saw off Chelsea 4-0 on aggregate, with both Potter and Frank Lampard in the Blues dugout for a leg each - and it looked as if the Sky man was correct with his words.
Since then however, Chelsea have kicked on under Mauricio Pochettino and now Enzo Maresca, finishing sixth in 2023/24 and fourth in 2024/25.

You'd think that this clear upwards projection would be an indicator that usually, throwing a lot of money at a problem will, in more cases than not, end up producing results.
Yet, the ex-Everton fan has refused to back down, firstly claiming that "we can't pretend that this has been a success so far after three-and-a-half years", whilst at the same time saying, "This is no underdog story; they've spent £1.2 billion."
For starters, a jump from 12th to fourth in the table seems like a clear improvement to me, but also if things hadn't gone at least reasonably well, why would he be commenting on a success story not being labelled as an underdog tale? Surely both statements are one big contradiction?
Let's not even mention the fact the Blues won both the UEFA Conference League and the inaugural new FIFA Club World Cup - for which they earned £90m - over the summer months, which Carragher was happy to dismiss as 'Mickey Mouse' cups.
So despite the Blues thrashing PSG 3-0 in the final and absolutely dominating a team that had ripped clubs such as HIS Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and, of course, Inter Milan to pieces since January, it doesn't count because the competition isn't worthy enough in his view - I wonder if he would have the same opinion if it had been Virgil van Dijk lifting the prize and John W. Henry pocketing the earnings.
The comments haven't stopped, and even more has come out within the last few weeks regarding Chelsea.
🗣 Jamie Carragher: "I don't think Chelsea will qualify out of the Champions League group stage. The team is abit overrated at this point "

He started by claiming he doesn't "think Chelsea will qualify out of the Champions League group stage", which only time will tell, and later followed up by posing the question as to whether Chelsea are "here to transfer players or win trophies?", to which Micah Richards quite rightly reminded him that they have just won two.
Another claim came back to haunt him just this weekend, as his previous question of "How can Chelsea be the World Champions and they did not beat the Champions of England?" came back to bite him, with Estevao's last-gasp winner on the weekend against the Reds meaning they have now indeed beaten the English champions.

Oh, and they did so with two full-backs filling in at centre-back for half an hour plus the absence of their star man, Cole Palmer - as Chelsea move within five points of first place.
Honestly, it remains a mystery, although I have some theories as to why.

This match, in which Gianfranco Zola destroyed him with insane trickery, was the final fixture of the 2002/03 season between Chelsea and Liverpool, and it was a straight shoot-out between the two as to who would claim the final Champions League spot.
The Blues won 2-1, qualified for the competition over Carragher's team and prompted Abrahmovic to buy the club that summer, leading to a period of Blue domination that broke the Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United stronghold over English football.
Case closed, we think.
