It was another disappointing defeat yesterday afternoon for Everton, as they were defeated by league leaders Arsenal at home. The Toffees won't be too hard on themselves as it is always a tough task against Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, but they could've got more of what seemed a stalemate. Everton struggled to create many chances and Viktor Gyökeres’ penalty was the deciding factor between the two ruining their chances of a clean sheet.
Defending hasn't been a huge issue thus far for Everton, but their centre-backs are aging and players have been deployed in their unnatural positions. Irish centre-back Jake O'Brien has been deployed as a makeshift right back due to the injuries of long-time servant Seamus Coleman and also Nathan Patterson who has just returned from a lengthy absence. He has provided some brilliant defensive stability winning most of his duels in the air with his lengthy frame. However, attacking-wise he has his limitations which are clear to see with his lack of intent in bombing forward and making overlapping runs like a full-back usually would.
With David Moyes looking to avoid having to keep playing O'Brian out of position, Everton are looking at bringing in another right-back in January to bolster their options. They have been keeping tabs on Leeds United full-back Jayden Bogle who has been a consistent performer for the newly promoted side.

David Moyes has been scouring the market for months for a good option at right-back and keeps having to play 6ft 5in Jake O'Brien out of position.

Everton would have to pay for Bogle, as his contract doesn't run out until the summer of 2028. The 25-year-old has featured in every single Premier League game so far for Leeds having most often been deployed as a right wing-back in Daniel Farke's side. He might not provide anything extraordinary, but he is a solid performer who can both attack and defend at a good level. Whilst this season he has been deployed as a right wing back, his natural position is usually at right back. He would most likely slot right into Everton's defence allowing Jake O'Brian to either occupy the bench or slot in at centre back next to either Michael Keane or James Tarkowski.
Everton could find themselves paying in the range of upwards of ten million for the fullback, but Farke might be reluctant in letting him go. The former England Under-20 international started his career at Derby coming through the youth system but made a name for himself at Sheffield United. He then joined Leeds in the summer of the 2024/25 season after a number of years at Sheffield United in the Championship and Premier League. He has most notably been a part of two promotions with Leeds and Sheffield United.
At this point in time, no talks have begun and no offers have been put on the table. Bogle won't be the only right back that David Moyes will want to look at as the new year is looming and the transfer window opening in just over a week.
There is word around the league however, that Bogle is currently happy in his situation at Leeds United and isn't interested in a move at this point in time.
Interest in Jayden Bogle is understandable, but the player is happy at Leeds and most definitely not agitating for a move. #LUFC https://t.co/Bdxqe5eVMg
