Football, at what feels like long last, has finally made a grandiose return to our screens and, suitably, our bet slips.

After a frantic opening weekend in the EFL, where the unpredictability of England's tiers two through four reared it's head once more, all eyes turn towards this weekend's array of glittering head-to-head battles, with the might of the Premier League returning as a grand entrant.

The top flight makes it's official return on Friday the 15th of August, 2025 as reigning champions Liverpool seek their first step towards retention, battling against the spirit of a Bournemouth side who faired well in the league's upper tier last season.

Following that, a regular menu of enticing fixtures all across the country will be available to pad out your weekend. To help those with a betting eye get the most out of their surveillance, we've compiled a blockbusting 109.61 ACCA across the Premier League and EFL Championship this weekend.

Tottenham vs Burnley - Strong Start at the Lane

Despite the famous "Spursy" tagline once again rearing it's head in the UEFA Super Cup, with Tottenham throwing away a two-goal lead over Champions League victors Paris Saint-Germain before losing a penalty shootout, their season does look to be one to keep a close eye on.

Even with their long-winded trophy drought finally coming to a cheery end under the guise of Ange Postecoglou last season, a change was made in the dugout with Brentford boss Thomas Frank crossing London to pick up the reins in place of the Australian coach.

Since then, eye-catching signings such as Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha have bolstered a Europa League-winning outfit, ahead of a return to Champions League football and hopefully, for their sake, a rise away from their dismal 17th-placed finish in the league last season.

Despite the tearful departure of the legendary Heung-Min Son, Spurs had a decent enough pre-season campaign, with a spirited showing against PSG in the Super Cup combining with an undefeated spree of friendly fixtures - including a 1-0 win over rivals Arsenal and barring a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich.

We expect Tottenham to lay down a marker on the opening day of the season against a Burnley side tipped to struggle again in this year's edition of the Premier League. It could be good value, too - Spurs haven't been defeated on opening day in 5 years.

Brighton vs Fulham - Goals to Flow on the Coast

With two decently-matched teams lining up on the South Coast, we expect this line to be a formality, with Over 1.5 goals landing in every single league Brighton game since January, and all but three Fulham games since the turn of the year.

Both teams have goals well within them, having enjoyed fruitful pre-season campaigns as well as holding ambitions apiece to climb higher from their impressive 24/25 seasons.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle - Both Teams to Strike at Villa Park

One team who made it into the Champions League on the final day of last season, and another who fell desperately, breathlessly short.

This one sizes up to be one of the games of the weekend, with two solidly-matched opponents looking to set a marker down for another impressive season toward the Premier League summit.

Neither side has splashed the cash too heavily this summer - one because of PSR's vice-like grip on the sport and the other because, simply put, everyone keeps beating them to the punch.

Expect an even bout with goals at both ends.

Sunderland vs West Ham - Black Cats Back With a Bang

This selection holds the longest odds of the accumulator, but the returning Sunderland may be no easy feat for The Hammers to face on their opening joust of the 25/26 season.

The Black Cats have made ambitious moves in the market to celebrate their return to the big time, with the likes of Habib Diarra, Simon Adingra and, of course, Granit Xhaka linking up at The Stadium of Light for the forthcoming campaign.

West Ham haven't quite been able to launch as many funds at their project as their Saturday foes, with the £20m+ arrival of fullback El Hadji Malick Diouf their main arrival, alongside free deals for Callum Wilson, Mads Hermansen and Kyle Walker-Peters, as well as seeing the loan of Jean-Clair Todibo turn permanent.

Of course, signings alone will not dictate who will fare better on the opening weekend, but with a home crowd behind them, belief in their hearts and an impressive crop of recruits alongside them, we think Sunderland will lay down a solid marker on their top flight return.

Swansea City vs Sheffield United - Swans and Blades to Fire Home

Despite a drab opening affair for Swansea in their opening game against a tough Middlesbrough side, The Swans have goals within them as displayed in a strong display against League Two side Crawley in the League Cup.

Though a display against a side two leagues below doesn't spell everything needed, Sheffield United's 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Bristol City on their respective opening fixture, followed by a disappointing cup exit against Birmingham, will put a bit of hope into the court of the Welsh side.

Against Bristol City, The Blades dominated possession and peppered The Robins with hopeful efforts on goal, but had the exact same done to them at the hands of Birmingham - they did find the net in both games, however.

At odds of 1.80, meaning an £18 return from a £10 stake, we think this line holds solid value.

Preston vs Leicester City - Foxes to Stake Claim

Leicester City's tetchy opening bout with Sheffield Wednesday and penalty-driven cup exit at the hands of Huddersfield won't have sparked much hope within their ranks, but they should have enough about them to put away Preston on their travels up North.

They square off with a Preston side who narrowly escaped the drop zone last season - by a solitary point, in fact - and should put them away in a decent enough fashion.

Preston won't be the easiest game on earth, of course, with The Lilywhites taking a decent enough point away from a languid clash with QPR on their opening night, before slimly edging past Barrow in their respective cup tie.

Decent enough results, of course, but Leicester will be the likely favourite to walk away with the points here.

Bristol City vs Charlton - Robins to Continue Strong Start

The aforementioned opening day bout for Sheffield United comes into play here, with that 4-1 drubbing of a side who bested them in last season's play-off semi final likely to inject plenty of confidence into Bristol City's legs.

They followed that impressive display up with a solid 2-0 scalp of League Two's title favourites, MK Dons, and will be teeming with spirit ahead of a visit from Nathan Jones' Charlton Athletic side.

The Addicks have had a strong start of their own, of course, besting Watford on their opening day and dismantling Stevenage in the cup, but their Championship return, 6 years in the making, is likely to feature it's first bump in the road in this bout.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Stoke City - Even Bout to Feature Goals Apiece

With this line landing in 11 Sheffield Wednesday games since April, including their first two competitive bouts of a season ravaged by off-field troubles, expect the net to bustle on both ends of the Hillsborough carpet this weekend.

Both sides enjoyed solid performances on their respective opening days - Sheffield Wednesday narrowly losing out to title challengers Leicester in theirs, and Stoke City throwing out an impressive late show against Derby County, winning 3-1 after stoppage time goals from Divin Mubama and Sorba Thomas.

Both sides have goals in their game, and are likely to be a solid match for one another when the first whistle rings out.
