The Premier League title – one of the most sought-after footballing achievements, that is glued to everyone’s minds for the best part of nine months.
Not only does it decide who will be written into the next chapter of Premier League history, but it also offers a wealthy summer of celebration and bragging rights afterwards.
Just one game-week into the new season, it’s time to look at who the likely culprits are to claim the royal prize.
To earn Champion status in the English top flight, a team must finish at the very top of the Premier League table.
There are 20 teams in the league and the one who manages to tally up the most points through wins or draws will reach the summit by the end of the 38-game campaign.
The prosperous team to end up in top spot will be crowned champions and awarded the iconic Premier League trophy, with ribbons wrapped around it in the colour of their club.
That team will also be granted a place in the next season’s UEFA Champions League tournament and will be on the receiving end of a hefty prize fund.
It was Arne Slot’s Liverpool who managed to lift the Premier League trophy last season, after finishing in top spot 10 points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
The Reds racked up 84 points, which although isn’t too high of a number compared to previous seasons, it was enough to get the job done convincingly. Their magnificent performance throughout the campaign led to this being their 20th first division title in history.
The Merseyside outfit are now level with Manchester United on most league titles won ever. However, it was only the Reds’ second ever Premier League title after its rebranding back in 1992.

Following the first set of Premier League fixtures, it is Manchester City who sit at the top of the table.
Pep Guardiola’s men have reached top spot through their 4-0 victory against Wolves last Saturday which puts them in the lead via goal difference.
All of Sunderland, Tottenham, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Arsenal and Brighton picked up three points on opening weekend as well; however, they just didn’t quite reach the number of goals that City did.
Of course, Manchester City will be a likely candidate to chase the title throughout this season, but the current table status certainly doesn’t indicate how it may look at the end of the season. There are still 37 game-weeks to go, and things can very easily shift.
According to Kwiff, the favourite to win the Premier League this season is Liverpool, with odds of 2.65.
The next two are both Arsenal with 2.75 and Manchester City with 3.40. Then comes Chelsea with 9.55 odds. After that, all the other teams have much greater odds and are not necessarily considered title contenders.
The top three especially certainly do not come as a surprise. Of course, Liverpool won the league last season, so they are the most likely to retain it. But they have also been part of a three-horse race with both Arsenal and Man City for years on end, hence the other two’s enhanced odds.
Arsenal are only slightly behind Liverpool because they have now finished in second place three seasons running and have splashed out a lot of money on player transfers this summer.
These odds by Kwiff give us strong indication on who is likely to win the league this season. However, the odds may change throughout the season, depending on form, player injuries and the table status.
Ultimately, the league champion is likely to be either Liverpool, Man City or Arsenal. It is extremely difficult to predict which one at this stage of the season, or another team may surprise us.
Liverpool is the safe bet. Their side was immensely dominant in the Premier League last term and Arne Slot has only upgraded since then, bringing in the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike.

The Reds already managed to display their title momentum in opening week, as they managed to put four past Bournemouth, with contributions from some of their new acquisitions.
Arsenal will be once again absolutely desperate for that league title. Second place three seasons on the bounce has only made them want it more and this could just be Mikel Arteta’s year.

They have already beaten an improved Manchester United side to kick off the campaign and have invested a lot of money into their squad this summer. The signing of Viktor Gyökeres could be their make or break.
As long as Pep Guardiola is at Manchester City they will be title contenders. There is no shying away from the blip they had last season, but winning the league six times in seven seasons has easily marked them as the best top flight team from the last decade.

City have already started how they mean to go on as well, winning 4-0 on opening day to stick them at the pinnacle. New additions Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki looked red hot in that game as well, as they both found the net on their debuts.
