Every football fan who supports a club struggling for goals, waits anxiously in the hope that their latest striker can be the difference maker. It is one thing having purple patches as a striker, but finding the net on a consistent basis remains the hardest skill to master in the game.
That wait could be over for Norwich fans, according to Sports Boom the Canaries have emerged as the front runners to sign a goal machine from Germany. It is clear that Norwich are in desperate need of a striker, with the team scoring just 12 goals all season. Their January target could make all the difference and here's everything you need to know about the mystery striker.
Whilst the German first division has produced a mesmeric talent pool of players over recent times, the second tier is not to be underestimated. That is because 22-year-old Younes Ebnoutalib plays in the league for SV 07 Elversberg. A name that might mean nothing to most, but a player not only for the future, but for the now.
The talented German striker has amassed 9 league goals in 11 matches this season, making him the Bundesliga 2 top goal scorer. A very impressive return for a player that was relatively unknown at the start of the season.
To say his rise in the game has been rapid would be an understatement as the youngster was playing in the Regionalliga with FC Giessen just last season, the fourth tier of German football. He'd make the switch to Elversberg last January for only £100k, making just six appearances in the second division last term.
Whilst this season has been going exemplary for Ebnoutalib, with his numbers being the best they've ever been, it hasn't always been so straight forward for the big man. He was without a club for seven months before signing for FC Giessen after spending two spells at Rot-Weiss Frankfurt, as well as Wehen Wiesbaden youth and before his unemployed status he'd move to Italy to play for Perugia.
Once a player facing rejection, he has become one of the most promising young strikers, who still has so much to learn. With his high work rate and tall stature, the German is a physical presence on the pitch who has been a difficult proposition for any defence in the league to face.
The @SV07Elversberg machine keeps chugging along!

It is Norwich who appear to be the English club showing the greatest interest in Ebnoutalib, after the ACL injury sustained to current striker Ante Crnac will see him miss the rest of the season. The fans at Carrow Road are in desperate need of a spark from somewhere, with doubts setting in over manager Liam Manning as the club sit 23rd in the table.
The Norfolk side are not the only Championship club monitoring the 22-year-old. Sheffield United have not had the upturn of results many expected since the return of Chris Wilder in charge and a new frontman would be very beneficial for the Blades, having scored just 9 goals this season, the least of any club in the division.
It would be very Wrexham like to make another statement signing and with one of last seasons promotion stars, Sam Smith seemingly out of favour, competiton for a starting spot with Kieffer Moore could be welcomed in the January transfer window.
He has attracted interest from across Europe also, and Ebnoutalib along with his agent will have a decision to make over the next months, with his current club Elversberg desperate to keep hold of their best player at least until the end of the season.

If Ebnoutalib was to stay in Bundesliga 2, he has the potential to join a host of German talent to be crowned the golden boot winner in the division, with players like Rudi Voller and Lukas Podolski claiming the prize early in their careers.
He may also want to attempt to break Rudi Voller's record of 37 goals in a 34 game Bundesliga 2 season. A record that has stood for fourty-four years and for good reason. There appears to be no ceiling for the youngster, who continues to find the net.
