'You Talk Too Much…' – The Brutal Lesson a Teen Star Just Learnt From Europe's Biggest Club

It doesn't need much introduction, but El Clasico is one of the fiestiest fixtures in football.

It has been home to some of the most exceptional games in football history, with Real Madrid and Barca trading blows both in a footballing sense and in, shall we call it… extracurricular capacity.

And it's safe to say the most recent encounter between the two was no different from those gone by.

The two sides played out a fierce, ding-dong battle with goals, drama and quality on show, with Real Madrid running out 2-1 winners on the night.

But despite the high-level ability shown from both sides, it would be what happened after the final whistle that would really catch the headlines.

Remember that extracurricular capacity I mentioned before? Well, let's just say that was at the very core of the 'brawl' that ensued after the final whistle was blown.

It involved some choice words of…well…let's call it endearment, and a lesson learnt for one of the world's biggest young superstars.

Yamal on a Wind-Up?

Before we get into what was actually said and the nitty-gritty, let's take a little look at the events which led up to said boiling point.

In the build-up to El Clasico, it's safe to say Lamine Yamal wasn't exactly trying to keep the peace.

In fact, I reckon it's safe to say it was quite the opposite.

On a Twitch stream, whilst chatting to streamer Ibai Llanos, Yamal made a not-so-subtle comment which compared Los Blancos to a Kings League team (Gerard Pique's tournament; look it up, it's pretty cool) who are known for benefitting from refereeing decisions. He also claimed that Madrid 'rob, complain and do things' to win using underhand tactics.

And, as you'd expect, Spanish media jumped on this, and within hours it was all over the news. I mean, as a journalist myself, let me tell you, that is prime real estate for a story…

The Real Madrid players understandably weren't exactly enamoured with the cheeky outburst from the Ballon d'Or runner-up; you can't exactly blame them, and they weren't shy in making their feelings known in the game's aftermath.

If You're Gonna Talk the Talk, You Gotta Walk the Walk

"You speak too much; speak now." - I mean, it's a fair comment, isn't it?

That was the reported verbal barb sent Yamal's way by Dani Carvajal, long-time Real Madrid servant, upon the final whistle.

Then Vini Jr joined in, then Courtois, then Casado came to Yamal's rescue. Before long, a Jenga tower of players had entered the fray… As Carl Froch would say, we can all have a pull and a push.

It's worth bearing in mind that Real Madrid had won the game 2-1 before this melee began. Yamal must have really riled them up for them to get that angry after winning, eh?

Other comments reportedly included Vini Jr saying, "Nothing but back passes, huh? Just passing back to the defenders," in response to Yamal's struggles to help his side out creatively during the game.

Jude Bellingham also weighed in, taking to social media to write simply "Talk is cheap" on his Instagram post. Technically, it hasn't been confirmed that the comment was in response to Yamal, but I think we can all take a pretty safe guess as to what it was in reference to.

Too Big for His Boots

As the great Stormzy once poetically said, "You're getting way too big for your boots; you're never too big for the boot." - Come to think of it, it would have been much better if Carvajal had put it like that instead… Anyway.

Now obviously that's a joke (or an attempt at one anyway), but there probably is something in that.

At just 18 years old, Yamal is already one of the biggest stars in world football; many may even argue he is the best in the world, full stop.

And although we are always pining for more personality in our sport, when that personality becomes disrespect, questions have to be asked.

Yamal isn't exactly the most subtle of characters when it comes to controversy, and he is regularly in the headlines. Granted, a lot of that is sensationalist, but the point still stands.

And with all the talent the young man has, he doesn't really need to be getting involved in all of the talk – and if you're going to, at least do it after you've won, for goodness' sake.

Pre-emptive chirping doesn't usually end well; in fact, it often just condemns you to facing the humiliation of it backfiring.

By all means, talk your talk once you've slapped a couple in the onion bag and tortured your full back for 90 minutes, but anything before that and you've only got yourself to blame for the consequences.

This one will likely be a lesson learnt for the teenage sensation, but hey, you've got to admire the confidence, don't you?
