Danny Welbeck was amongst the goals yet again this afternoon, with a goal in a 2-1 victory at home vs Nottingham Forest. This brings his goal total for the season up to 10 goals in the Premier League. This is now the second time in his whole career that he has hit the double digits in the Premier League, with the first time being last season, despite being 34 and now 35 years old. Some players don't hit their prime early in their career, but Welbeck has really taken that to a whole new level!
He had spells at massive clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United, however the Englishman never quite made it as a starter at either club, struggling to stake a claim for a starting spot in any usual players 'prime years'. Fast forward 10 years and people are saying he should be in the England world cup squad!
Back to back wins 💪🏿⚽️

For years Danny Welbeck was labelled as the nearly man. The hard worker. The honest pro. The forward who did everything right apart from rack up the numbers. Injuries never helped, competition for places never made it easier, and the narrative around him almost became lazy. But what we are seeing now is not luck. It is not a purple patch. It is a player who understands his game better than ever.
What stands out more than anything is how important he has become. This is not a squad role. This is not five minutes here and there. He is starting big games. He is leading the line. He is setting the tone with his pressing and dragging defenders into spaces they do not want to go. At 35, that level of intensity is not normal. He really has hit new heights in his career, so late on.
Only two players in Premier League history have scored 10+ goals in consecutive seasons whilst aged 33 or older…

There is also a maturity to his game now. Earlier in his career he relied heavily on pace and raw athleticism. Now it is about timing, positioning and decision making. He picks his moments. He knows when to hold it up and when to spin in behind. That intelligence is what has turned him from a useful forward into a reliable goalscorer.
Ten league goals again is not a fluke. It is consistency. And consistency at 35 in the Premier League deserves serious respect. Some players peak at 23. Some at 27. Danny Welbeck decided to save his best numbers for his mid thirties. And honestly, you cannot help but admire it.
"An INCREDIBLE start to the game!" 🎙️
