Ange Postecoglou on Spurs’ Goalkeeper Situation

Following an outstanding 4-0 away win over Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur fans must have been on cloud nine. Yes, City were on a run of four without a win, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive that Ange Postecoglou’s team completed a dominant performance over the reigning champions.

However, fans would’ve snapped back to reality once they heard the devastating news of Guglielmo Vicario’s injury sustained in the game.

In his 50th Premier League appearance, where he played nothing short of a blinder, the Italian stopper fractured his right ankle. Somehow, he played the remaining 60 minutes of the game with the injury.

Vicario will be a big miss for Spurs, given his impact since signing from Empoli back in 2023 for just €18.5 million.

Given he’ll be out for a significant period, many have debated whether spurs would entrust Fraser Forster with a starting role for that time, or whether the North London side would dip into the transfer market in order to sign a short term replacement.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ange Postecoglou said: “It’s not going to be weeks, it’s going to be months.

“Once we’re past rehab we’ll have a clearer idea.”

With Keylor Navas available on a free transfer, it’s understandable why people would think Tottenham might take advantage of the Bosman ruling, however Postecoglou has put an end to these rumours.

“We will not sign a new goalkeeper in January.” Said the Australian, “We trust Frazer Forster.”
