West Brom's 3-0 loss to Portsmouth today takes them to four losses out of their last five, with the looming thought of relegation growing in the minds of both West Brom fans and the club itself. This was a must-win game against a fellow relegation candidate, with this result bringing Portsmouth above West Brom, with the Baggies now in 21st in the EFL Championship.
Things are not looking good for West Brom; if this poor run of results carries on, they could easily drop into the relegation zone, as they are only 3 points safe. New boss Eric Ramsay joined from Minnesota United just 20 days ago, and in this time West Brom have lost three and drawn one. It has been a really poor start from the man brought in to save West Brom's poor season.

The defeat also highlighted some of the same issues that have plagued West Brom all season. A lack of cutting edge going forward and costly defensive errors once again proved decisive, with Portsmouth able to punish the Baggies far too easily. West Brom struggled to impose themselves on the game, and once they fell behind, confidence visibly drained from the side.
Pressure is now beginning to mount on Ramsay, who was appointed with the aim of steadying the ship and pulling West Brom away from danger. While he has had little time to implement his ideas, results have not been forthcoming, and patience may be tested if performances do not improve quickly. With fixtures coming thick and fast, West Brom cannot afford for this slump to continue.

This is starting to become toxic very fast #wba
The table offers little comfort either. With teams around them picking up points, West Brom’s margin for error is shrinking by the week. The upcoming games will be crucial in determining whether the Baggies can turn their season around or whether they will be dragged deeper into a relegation battle that now feels increasingly difficult to escape.
Portsmouth started the game on the front foot, while West Brom looked nervy from the off. Simple passes were going astray, and the Baggies never really settled, which allowed the hosts to take control early on. The opening goal felt like it had been coming, with West Brom failing to clear their lines before Portsmouth made the pressure count.
West Brom tried to rally before halftime but struggled to create anything of real note. A few promising positions came to nothing, and Portsmouth were able to see out the half without too much trouble, heading into the break with a deserved lead.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Any belief West Brom had was knocked out of them when Portsmouth struck again, capitalizing on another mistake at the back. From there, the game drifted away from the Baggies. Portsmouth remained comfortable and wrapped things up late on with a third goal, leaving West Brom with plenty to reflect on after another damaging afternoon.

I must say West Brom going down to league one would be one of the biggest shocks in a while.
For me arguably the Baggies are the biggest club in the champ. 😳pic.twitter.com/Q22WNal5W7
Their next league game comes on Saturday, 7th February, when West Brom hosts Stoke City in the Sky Bet Championship at The Hawthorns. This match represents a key opportunity for the Baggies to respond after today’s disappointing defeat and try to resist their slide down the table before a crucial run of fixtures later in February.
