Can Bromley get back-to-back promotions?

Bromley FC had a phenomenal 2023/2024 season which saw the club enter the Football League for the first time in the club's history. After securing a third-place league finish, Bromley would then book their spot at Wembley for the National League Playoff Final.

Facing off against Solihull Moors, the game whittled its way down to penalties in which Byron Webster would score the winner and see Bromley promoted to the Football League for the first time since the foundation of the club in 1892.

Entering League Two, Bromley were not confident that they would be able to compete with the higher quality sides than what the club had been used to.

However, the Ravens came to fight, as they have more wins than defeats and are currently sat down in tenth position in the table, five places higher than the team they were promoted with, Chesterfield.

Now, tenth place is low down to be considering promotion hopes, but there is only a seven-point gap between Bromley and sixth place Port Vale who are currently holding the last place for promotion playoffs.

Bromley FC Current Form

Accumulating nine points from their last five matches Bromley have rocketed up the table and are currently sat one point behind Colchester who are in superb form, going their last 11 games unbeaten.

Bromley have picked up some huge wins in their recent matches, completing victories over fourth place Wimbledon and third place Doncaster.

However, Andy Woodman will be upset with his squad after suffering defeat at the hands of Tranmere Rovers in their last match. Coming into his game with back-to-back wins, Woodman was confident his side would be the victors in what should have been a straightforward match for the Ravens, with Tranmere having a poor season down in 22nd place.

On top of this, Bromley have been a well performing side on the road, with seven of their 13 wins this season coming away from home. But their strength was not enough as an early goal from forward Michael Cheek was to be answered first by Tranmere forward Joshua Hawkes and then by midfielder Omari Patrick.

Managing five wins from their last ten games, Bromley are fortunate that the teams above in their promotion playoff spots have been dropping points, with Notts County without a win in their last three and Port Vale with three consecutive draws.

Bromley Key Players

Acquired on loan from Stevenage for the 2024/2025 season, 29-year-old midfielder Ben Thompson has been on fire for Bromley. So much so that in January, Bromley signed Thompson on a permanent deal just six months after his arrival. Woodman was looking for a midfielder with Football League experience and he found a beauty in Ben Thompson.

His ability to carry the ball forward has been widely praised, with the midfielder managing five goal contributions from 32 matches so far in League Two. The English midfielder has also been received well for his aggression and his desire to get the ball back, with 30 tackles won and 30 interceptions made.

The famous saying is ‘you can’t win games without scoring goals’ and luckily for Bromley, they have Michael Cheek leading their line. The 33-year-old is now playing in his sixth season for Bromley and has already cemented himself as a tremendous scorer in the National League.

Well, it seems he can deliver in the Football League as well, with the English forward recording 17 goals so far in the league and is currently leading the race for the golden boot. Standing at six foot two, his hold up play and physical presence have contuined to make the Bromley forward a threat, on top of an insane off the ball work rate to ensure defenders are consistently under pressure.

Ending the season on a high

With only nine games remaining in the season, Bromley faces a crucial stretch if they are to keep their hopes of back-to-back promotions alive.

Their current schedule looks promising as the season draws to its close, with eight of their final nine games against teams in the lower half of the table. If Bromley can maintain their focus and consistency, they have a strong chance of securing positive results in these more straightforward fixtures.

Can Bromley make it to the promotion playoff spots or is it too little too late for the London club.
