Second from bottom of the Championship table as we vault into 2026, Oxford United have known that some savvy business is required in January for a while. The U’s have just two league wins since October, and with one in their last seven, they now find themselves three points adrift of safety.
Their record makes for grim reading: only four teams have scored less than their 25 goals, while only two boast less possession per 90 than their 42.7%. To top it all off, their two clean sheets all season is the worst record in the division.

However, Oxford are showing they mean business in 2026, and are looking to bolster their attacking firepower with the loan addition of Brentford’s Myles Peart-Harris.
Initially starting his professional career in the prestigious ranks of Chelsea’ Cobham youth system, Peart-Harris has been forced to be adaptable throughout his short journey so far - starting as a striker, an early growth spurt forced him to move to centre back, before Chelsea youth coaches recognised his on-the-ball prowess and moved him into midfield.
So, capable of playing every position on the pitch, the 23-year-old flexes a rare versatility that rarely goes unnoticed in the EFL - the more positions a prospective player can operate in, the more attractive they become as a transfer target.
Leaving the Chelsea ranks in 2021 as the development team's top scorer, Brentford scooped him up on a free transfer, and it looked like his career was set to take off at the up-and-coming West London outfit.
However, he has only managed eight games for the Bees since the start of the 2021/22 season, with the majority of his minutes coming in loan spells for League One sides Forest Green and Portsmouth, and a spell at Championship outfit Swansea last campaign.
Preferring to be played as an attacker on the left flank, Peart-Harris’s goal contributions have been limited throughout his career so far - he scored six and assisted five while at Forest Green, but has only added five goals and four assists since then.

Myles Peart-Harris has really found his feet down the RW, providing 3 assists in his last 4 games: 🎯

However, Peart-Harris will surely now benefit from the depth of EFL experience he has taken on over the last few years; he will now be familiar with the hostile, physical style of play and, now well into his 20s, he certainly has the necessary skill set to match it.
It could also prove to be the springboard that finally gets his career off the ground - as an emergency backup at best while at Brentford, he has rarely been able to showcase his full ability in a setting that suits him, and Oxford United could be the place that the EFL audience finally learns what Myles Peart-Harris is all about.
At the moment it appears that it will simply be a vanilla loan move, but don’t be surprised if an optional clause to buy is inserted into the deal.
