Rangers are weighing up a move for AEK Athens left back James Penrice, according to Andy Newport of The Daily Record.

This news comes after ex-interim Rangers boss Barry Ferguson had a deal in place to bring Penrice to Ibrox in the summer, however the appointment of Russell Martin caused this deal to fall through.
However now with Danny Röhl at the helm, it is understood that Penrice is now an option again, and that Dan Purdy has been sent to the Greek capital to cast an eye over his performances.

Penrice made the move to Athens in the summer, joining from Hearts for a fee in the £2 million region, and has made 25 appearances for the Greek giants, one of which was their comfortable 6-0 win over Aberdeen in the Europa Conference League. He began his career at Partick Thistle, before making the switch to Livingston, where he would make 96 appearances over 3 seasons. He would then make the switch to Hearts where he had a very good campaign at Tynecastle last season, netting twice and adding 7 assists.
