Terzic Shocks Dortmund Fans With Resignation Announcement

13/06/24 12:52

Edin Terzic has just announced that he has parted ways with Borussia Dortmund today after his contract was terminated through mutual consent.

He was appointed as full time manager in 2022 and during that time he managed the club 96 times; winning 55, drawing 20 and losing 21.

His first stint was in 2021 when he was given the reigns as interim manager for seven months and brought home a fifth DFB Pokal title, one of the highlights of his time at the club.

He probably would have liked to leave on a high with a UEFA Champions League trophy, but it wasn’t to be. However, he can be proud with the fact that before the tournament not many people would have predicted Dortmund to make it to the final.

And in the 22/23 season he came agonisingly close to a Bundesliga title, losing out to Bayern Munich on the final day of the season.

Borussia Dortmund fans might not be feeling too optimistic after now losing their manger in Edin Terzic and club legend in Marco Reus all at the end of one season, but Terzic has told the fans that it is not all doom and gloom.

He released a statement to the fans saying,

“After our final at Wembley, I asked the club bosses for a talk, because I've been at BVB for over 10 years now, with five as a coach and two-and-a-half as head coach, and I have the feeling that our new beginning should also come with someone new on the touchline. After intense discussions, my feeling hasn't changed.

I wish Borussia Dortmund all the best. It's not goodbye, but till next time.”

Football Park ranked tier three source, BILD have reported that former Borussia Dortmund player Nuri Sahin could be the one to take Terzic’s place as head coach with Sven Bender to be his assistant if appointed.

Being a boyhood Dortmund fan, this is probably the hardest decision that Terzic will have had to make in his career, but he has not ruled out the possibility of leaving the club for good, potentially going back to his old role as technical director.

Whatever his choice is, he leaves on good terms with the club and won’t make a decision on any new role in the near future.
