Tottenham Place Ajax Attacker at the Top of Their Christmas List

Tottenham Eyeing Up Dangerous Dutchman

With Tottenham’s form beginning to falter, and with familiar questions arising from fans and pundits alike, what Thomas Frank really needs is a signing who can make a difference - a player who can bring impetus and purpose to the London club’s game.

Over the years, we have seen a number of marquee offensive signings try and fail in North London, with Spains Robert Soldado, and Dutch duo Vincent Jansen and Steven Bergwijn, to name but a few.

However, in the lead-up to the January transfer window, Spurs have been linked with exciting Ajax winger Mika Godts, and we have a funny feeling he will fare better than his predecessors.

Who is Mika Godts?

The 20-year-old, who hails from Belgium, was picked up by the famed Ajax youth academy in January 2023, and in the almost three years since, has exploded onto the scene.

He made four senior appearances in his debut season at the club, notching an assist in that time, and the following year played a further 16 times, accruing a further two set-ups.

However, it was last season that Godts found his breakthrough – playing 47 times for the Ajax first team, he netted eight times and set up a further six as Ajax took the title battle to the final day, losing out to PSV Eindhoven in heartbreaking fashion.

This season, the left winger has looked the complete player; he has already eclipsed his goal contributions from last season in spite of his side's rotten form which sees them occupy fourth in the Eredivisie, and has become a key cog in Ajax's system, surviving Johnny Heitinga's sacking and forcing his way into new manager Fred Grim's plans.

A pacey wideman with a low centre of gravity and excellent dribbling ability and a propensity to cut inside onto his right foot, Godts combines these skills with his high IQ and ability to read the game to probe weaknesses in opposition backlines, pressing and pressing until they relent under the pressure.

Capable of moments of brilliance, as well as sensible decision-making, Godts seems tailor-made for the Premier League and looks like exactly the type of player Tottenham have been calling out for since Son Heung-Min’s form started to take a dip at the start of the 2024/25 season.

However, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham are considered an attractive destination – there are 13 outfits better placed than the London club, and Godts could be better served waiting for one of the English big boys to show their interest.

However, with money to spend, Tottenham will be looking to move quickly, and with a favourable contract, as well as further investment in the squad, Godts could well be persuaded to cross the channel and make the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium his new home.
