Who Has Spent The Most Money In The Premier League So Far This Transfer Window?

18/08/24 13:05

The transfer window has been open for a while now and all the clubs in the Premier League have spent a decent amount of money (apart from Liverpool anyway).

And with the window set to close for another year in just a few weeks time we thought we would take a look at which clubs have spent more than any other in the Premier League up until this point.

(all stats from Transfermarkt)

6 - West Ham United - €144.4 million

The first team on our list is West Ham United.

Julen Lopetegui was appointed manager of the club at the end of May and has had the freedom to bring in a lot of players.

Believe it or not they have only spent money on 5 players thus far with Jean-Clair Todibo joining on loan and Wes Foderingham and Guido Rodriguez joining in free transfer deals.

However where they have spent money they have spent a lot.

Max Kilman has cost them more than anyone else with a €47.5 million price tag. But they have also spent money on Crysensio Summerville (€29.3m), Niclas Füllkrug (€27m), Luis Guilherme (€23m) and, most recently, Aaron Wan Bissaka (€17.6m).

5 - Tottenham Hotspur - €148.85 million

Tottenham come in forth place on this list.

Similarly to West Ham they haven’t brought in an incredible number of players but have certainly paid a pretty penny for the players they have brought in. Ange Postecoglu continuing to make a stamp on this Spurs side.

Dominic Solanke’s transfer from Bournemouth just over a week ago has been their most expensive signing costing them around €64.3m.

Other than him though they have spent a lot of money on youngsters. 18 year old Archie Gray joined from Leeds United for €41.25m but they have also brought in Wilson Odobert from Burnley (€29.3m) who is 19, 18 year old Lucas Bergvall from Djurgården (€10m) and Min-hyeok Yang from Gangwon FC (€4m) who is also 18.

4 - Manchester United - €164.5 million

Manchester United are often big spenders in the transfer window and this year has been no different as Ineos look to make their mark in their first window.

A massive €164.5 million has been spent to bring in 4 players.

Joshua Zirkzee was the first player to come in, costing them €42.5m -Something that seems like money well spent considering his debut goal against Fulham on the opening day of the season - before bringing in Leny Yoro (their most expensive signing of the window so far) for €62m. Then a double swoop for Bayern Munich defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui cost them €45m and €15m respectively.

And it seems as though they aren’t done. How much will they have spent by the end of the window?

**3 - Brighton & Hove Albion - €170.2 million

Brighton have so often been praised for their ability to spend well in the transfer market and this season is no different.

New manager Fabian Hürzeler has come in and been given the freedom to spend how he wants bringing in a group of talented players.

Some of these deals including Georginio Rutter from Leeds United for €46.7 million as well as Yankuba Minteh (€35m), Mats Wieffer (€32m), Brajan Gruda (€30m), Ibrahim Osman (€19.5m) and Malick Junior Yalcouye (€7m).

Could they be in for European qualification at the end of this season?

2 - Aston Villa - €176.2 million

After a successful season last year Aston Villa have spent a lot of money in order to strengthen their squad and prepare for their UEFA Champions League campaign.

They have certainly spent well bringing in 8 players thus far.

Amadou Onana’s move from Everton set them back €59.35 million but made his mark in his competitive debut bagging the opening goal against West Ham.

They have also brought in Ian Maatsen for €44.5m as well as Cameron Archer (€16.65m), a returning Jaden Philogene (€16m), Samuel Iling-Junior (€14m), Lewis Dobbin (€11.8m), Enzo Barrenechea (€8m) and Ross Barkley (€5.9m)

1 - Chelsea - €189 million

But the top Premier League spenders this season have, of course, been Chelsea.

Since buying the club, Todd Boehly has brought in 44 different players and spent around £1.275 billion. 9 of those players signing this season.

Tosin Adarabioyo joined on a free transfer but since then Chelsea have spent big money on the likes of Pedro Neto (€60m), Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (€35.4m), Filip Jørgensen (€24.5m), Omari Kellyman (€22.5m), Aarón Anselmino (€16.5m), Renato Veiga (€14m), Caleb Wiley (€10.1m) and Marc Guiu (€6m).

With this many signings and considering the money they have spent Chelsea fans will be hopeful for a better season than they have seen in the last few years.
