Robin Roefs to Make 2+ Saves
Dominik Szoboszlai 1+ Shot on Target
Reinildo to Commit 2+ Fouls
Both Teams to Score
Total Odds: 4.50 (£10 Stake Returns £45)
Starting off with our resident away goalkeeper, Robin Roefs has been a shining star at the Stadium of Light so far this season. The 22-year-old shot-stopper, a recent summer arrival from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen, has made four or more saves in four of his last five appearances - the one outlier being a game wherein he made one. With Liverpool back to winning ways and desperate to put together some consistent points, expect them to test the waters with Roefs wherever possible, and expect Roefs himself to continue his form.
The Hungarian army knife of this team, Szoboszlai has been tested in all areas of the pitch so far but does catch the eye with his long-distance pops at goal. Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong remain shelved with injury, but Joe Gomez was successfully put at right-back in Liverpool's win over West Ham last time out, meaning 'Szobo' will likely have the free rein to take up a space in midfield. He's had a shot on target in four of his last five, including a mighty three on target whilst scoring against PSV in the Champions League.
Reinildo will be kept busy down the flank, and the Mozambique international is not afraid to get his hands dirty at left-back having conceded at least one foul in each of his last five matches and at least two fouls on four of those occasions. Whilst Mohamed Salah - his likely opponent - doesn't draw fouls that often at 0.5 per game, Reinildo will likely be rough and ready to help Sunderland dig in, so expect professional fouls to slow the pace of the game down to where they want it.
Sunderland's record away from home, despite their excellent performances so far in the Premier League, hasn't been anything too special. They sit 11th in the away form rankings and have only three goals on their travels - two of them came in one game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. However, Liverpool's struggles have been apparent all over and particularly at Anfield. Once an un-scalable fortress, Liverpool now sit 11th in the home form rankings having conceded eight goals at Anfield this season. Sunderland pop up in moments where you least expect it, and were the team to break Arsenal's amazing run of wins and clean sheets this season, so a goal at Anfield is certainly not out of the realms of possibility for them.
Dominik Szoboszlai 2+ Shots on Target From Outside the Box
Dan Ballard to Receive a Card
Joe Gomez to Receive a Card
Total Odds: 67.00 (£10 Stake Returns £670)
Furthering what we said about Szoboszlai, we can look into the line and plan that Sunderland may deploy. One thing that has impressed many onlookers to the Black Cats is their innate ability to soak up even the most suffocating of pressures in order to benefit further down the line. So, we expect them to sit deep and attract that pressure and potentially force Liverpool into potshots from distance. Szoboszlai loves those, having had a whopping 17 attempts from range this season, scoring once with a stunning free-kick against Arsenal. Speaking of free-kicks, Sunderland give a fair few fouls away within shotting range, so he'll have more goes if that comes to be the case.
Starting with the Liverpool half of our card double, the aforementioned Joe Gomez. A centre-back by trade but a right-back if needs be, Gomez played superbly in the win over West Ham and looked to be a far more measured option on the right of defence than Szoboszlai, so we expect him to start again there. He's quick for a centre-back, but recovery pace isn't hugely his thing and he may rely on a few haul-downs to counter Sunderland's innate counter-attacking threat. He gave one foul away against a West Ham side that didn't attack anywhere near as much as Sunderland will, so he'd be a smart one for a yellow card.
Further gearing into Sunderland's resiliency, Dan Ballard has been exceptional for The Black Cats at centre-half this term so far. The Northern Ireland defender has only been booked on one occasion this season, and gives away an average of 0.8 fouls per game. His physicality is his most imposing attribute, and he'll be expected to go head-to-head (literally) with Alex Isak. It'll be an interesting physical matchup, and Ballard could be a smart pick for a card as Sunderland look to dig in.
