Sunday presents final day action from the Turkish Super Lig, but strangely, there is very little to look forward to. The title, European spots, and relegated teams have all been confirmed, meaning that the remaining sides outside of those conversations have nothing to play for but pride and position.
Already relegated Bodrum host Europa League qualification bound Besiktas in one of these games, with both sides already assured of their destiny. Besiktas can finish no lower than their currently occupied fourth position, and a win, which would take them third, does not promise any greater reward than they have already got.
For Bodrum, this game is a formality - they lie 16th, in the final relegation spot, adrift of safety by five points, meaning that no matter the result, they will be playing in the 1. Lig next year.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
Bodrum Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Joao Sousa (GK); Cenk Sen, Ali Aytemur, Arlind Ajeti, Uzeyir Ergun; Taylan Antalyali, Pedro Brazao; Taulant Seferi, Enis Bardhi, Fredy; Gokdeniz Bayrakdar.
Though their relegation is sealed, Bodrumspor can hold their heads high - the last 13 years have been an absolute whirlwind, and they were bound to run into disappointment eventually. In 2011/12, Bodrumspor were in the Mugla Super Amator Lig, the sixth division of Turkish football - this year, they were the best of the relegated sides.
Five promotions in 12 years is always going to stretch the squad thin, and with their improvement occurring over such a short period of time, Bodrumspor didn’t necessarily always have the funds and facilities to attract Super Lig level talent, suffering from their own success.
However this relegation could be a good thing for them. It gives them a season to regroup in the second tier, and they will likely use that time to bolster the squad and mount an immediate challenge for another promotion. They will have their sights set on a return to the Super Lig, and next time round, they will want to stay there.
Besiktas Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Mert Gunok (GK); Emrecan Terzi, Emirhan Topcu, Gabriel Paulista, Jonas Svensson; Gedson Fernandes, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain; Mustafa Hekimoglu, Rafa Silva, Joao Mario; Ciro Immobile.
Considering the quality muttered throughout the Besiktas squad, many fans would expect them to be doing better. Sitting a whopping 33 points behind leaders Galatasaray, Besiktas have barely been competitive amongst the top sides this season. However, the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January changed all that.
The Norwegian, formerly player and coach of Man United, led the 16-time champions of Turkey to eight wins in his first 12 games in charge, and even managed to upset the eventual champions, running out as 2-1 winners in the Besiktas-Galatasaray derby.
However, his appointment came too late, and there were simply not enough games yet for Besiktas to be in with a shout of Champions League football. However, Solskjaer has shown more than enough proof that he is the man to lead them next season. Seal a win here, and he can start thinking of how to seriously challenge at the top next campaign.
This season saw the first ever meeting between the two sides back in January, a game which Besiktas emerged from as narrow 2-1 winners. The visitors will be hoping to repeat that feat on enemy territory on Sunday.
With nothing left to play for, both sides will be competing in the name of pride, and with nothing at stake here, neither side will actively try and surprise the other. This means that the side with overall quality should win.
That is why our experts have decided that the best tip for this fixture is to back Besiktas to win. Odds of 1.76 on Highbet mean that a £10 stake would return over £17.50 if the bet wins.
Bodrumspor 0-1 Besiktas
While Besiktas are clear favourites, Bodrum have almost perfected the art of limiting the damage. With their remarkable defensive record the fourth best in the league despite relegation, they will go back to the second tier with their heads held high, knowing they have a solid platform to build on.
