Arsenal are set to get their 2024/25 UEFA Champions League campaign underway as they travel to Bergamo to face Atalanta on Thursday night.
Believe it or not this is the first time that these two sides are set to face one another. However both clubs have rich histories against teams from the opposition's country.
Atalanta have faced Premier League opposition on 10 occasions - winning 4, drawing 2 and losing 5 times.
Arsenal on the other hand have played 35 times against teams in the Serie A. In that time they have picked up 19 wins, 8 draws and 7 losses.
But which team will succeed in this matchup?
Both teams come into this game with a lot of significant injury issues.
Atalanta will be without Gianluca Scamacca, Giorgio Scalvini, Rafael Toloi and Ben Godfrey in this match.
Arsenal on the other hand have a long list of issues. Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori remain out alongside Mikel Merino, Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksander Zinchenko. While Bukayo Saka is also a doubt after being taken off in the North London Derby this weekend.
Atalanta - Marco Carnesecchi, Berat Djimsiti, Isak Hien, Sead Kolasinac, Raoul Bellanova, Ederson, Marten De Roon, Matteo Ruggeri, Charles De Ketelaere, Ademola Lookman, Mateo Retegui
Arsenal - David Raya, Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel, Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice, Thomas Partey, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martineeli, Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling
Partnered with William Saliba Gabriel goes under the radar for Arsenal a lot of the time however he is often very impactful for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Gabriel has been a part of an Arsenal defence that this season has conceded just 1 goal so far this campaign. Not only this though but he also pops up with crucial goals including in their last game against Tottenham Hotspur.
That goal made him the highest scoring defender in the Premier League since 2020/21.
Expect him to play a crucial part in this fixture as well.
This game is going to be a surprisingly close match. Neither team has any real massive advantage over the other in this game so expect this game to be reflective of that.
Both sides of course will want to win but we aren’t sure anyone will take home all of the points here.
That is why our team of tipping experts have selected a Draw as our best value tip in this fixture. And at odds of 11/4, £10 has the potential to return up to £37.50.
This is probably the biggest match on Thursday 19th September in the UEFA Champions League. And you can check out all of the action live on TNT Sports 1 with kick off at 20:00 pm.
