The Serie A top four race has reached near boiling point, and the drama will continue on Saturday when Lazio host Juventus in the knowledge that the winner will put themselves in pole position to qualify for Europe’s premier continental competition next season.
Both sides sit on 63 points, with sixth placed Lazio separated from Juventus by Roma in fifth, while Bologna sit one point behind the trio. Lazio sit behind Juventus thanks to inferior goal difference, although they have scored six more goals than this weekend's opponents.
Meanwhile Juventus, who have suffered a joint league low of four defeats this season, know that victory here would all but seal a top four spot, with bottom half sides Udinese and Venezia their remaining fixtures following the Lazio game.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
This game is set to be shown on OneFootball, with kick-off scheduled for 17:00pm GMT.
Lazio Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Christos Mandas (GK); Luca Pellegrini, Alessio Romagnoli, Samuel Gigot, Adam Marusic; Nicolo Ravella, Matteo Guendouzi; Mattia Zacagni, Boulaye Dia, Gustav Isaksen; Valentin Castellanos.
Lazio have hit some form at just the right time - six games without defeat is an absolutely priceless streak, and could be the difference between Champions League football, and Europa or Conference League competition next campaign.
Since their last defeat, they haven’t necessarily improved their output in front of goal, nor have they improved defensively. The factor behind their recent good run appears to be improved consistency, and a growing ability to see games out.
They have managed three clean sheet victories by narrow margins, and two of their three draws in that time saw them lose a lead but cling onto a point. If they can bring that fighting spirit to this clash, then there is no reason why they shouldn’t jump above Juventus into fifth.
Juventus Predicted Lineup (3-4-2-1): Michele Di Gregorio; Pierre Kalulu, Renato Veiga, Nicolo Savona; Samuel Mbangula, Kephren Thuram, Manuel Locatelli, Timothy Weah; Nicolas Gonzalez, Weston McKennie; Randal Kolo Muani.
When Tiago Motta was sacked in March, many thought it would be a turning point for Juventus. Since Igor Tudor was brought in as his replacement, recent form has taken something of an upturn.
However, it is the long term form that has been the worry for the Old Lady. While they won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six, they won just two of the previous six before that, equating to five wins, two draws and five wins in that time. This is certainly not the form that would be expected of Champions League competitors.
However, these results can be mitigated somewhat due to an extensive injury list - Kenan Yildiz, Dusan Vlahvoic, Bremer, Teun Koopmeiners, and a host of other key players are missing through various knocks. With a throw-together starting eleven going into this game, Juventus are certainly not the favourites.
Recent Meetings:
The importance of this game for both sides cannot be understated. The winner will vault themselves into the position of favourites for Champions League football, while the loser will suddenly find themselves fighting for a Conference League spot.
With that being said, this game has the potential to be cagey, and slow to open up. Our bet is that at half time, both sides will be level, likely at 0-0, and the second is when the excitement will begin.
Lazio 2-0 Juventus
After a stiff half time talk by both managers, Lazio’s excellent recent form will come into play, and they will punish Juventus’ lack of creativity with two second half goals.
The League Two play-offs kick off on Saturday, with four teams vying for the one additional promotion spot which will see them catapulted into the third tier of English football.
The first of the two-legged semi-finals sees Notts County host AFC Wimbledon. The two sides finished the regular season separated by just one place and point, with Notts County ending the campaign in sixth, and Wimbledon crossing the line just in front of them.
With both sides winning their home fixtures against each other, Notts County will be hoping that pattern continues, as to carry a lead into the away second leg has shown countless times to be psychologically crucial.
As the crucial play-off phase of the League Two season begins, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
This game will be shown on Sky Sports Main Event, with kick-off scheduled for 12:30 on Saturday.
Notts County Predicted Lineup (3-4-2-1): Alex Bass (GK); Jacob Bedeau, Matty Platt, Rodney McDonald; Jodi Jones, Matthew Palmer, George Abbott, Kellan Gordon; David McGoldrick, Conor Grant; Alassana Jatta.
Since their first ever demotion from the Football League in 2018/19, Notts County have bounced back superbly. After spending three seasons in the National League rebuilding, they achieved promotion at the fourth time of asking, and just two seasons later, find themselves on the brink of promotion back into the third tier, where they haven’t played since 2015.
Deservedly so - it has been rare that other teams have been able to match County’s goal scoring power, and had they not faltered at the end of the season, they could well have sealed an automatic promotion spot.
But now in the play-offs, they must make sure they are focused on the task at hand. Some players may have been ready for their holiday’s but they need to make sure their minds are 100% on the games ahead.
AFC Wimbledon Predicted Lineup (3-5-2): Owen Goodman (GK); Ryan Johnson, Joe Lewis, Riley Harbottle; Josh Neufville, Alistair Smith, Sam Hutchinson, Jake Reeves, James Tilley; Mathew Stevens, Marcus Browne.
Wimbledon have proved to be a formidable task for any opponent this season. With such a water-tight defence, they were always going to be in the mix for promotion this season, and simply needed to ensure they had enough punch in attack to drive home their credentials.
Like Notts County, they could also have booked themselves a ticket to League One without the need to go through the play-offs, but one win in their last five put paid to that, form which saw them finish five points behind third place.
Now, faced with Notts County, Wimbledon will know they are in for a fight. Both sides are very closely matched, and picking a winner here, whether you are a fan or a neutral, is no easy task.
Recent Meetings:
While Notts County are regular scorers, they have only managed one across two games with Wimbledon this season - so this one does not look likely to be a goal fest. It will be a tight game with few opportunities, and we think there will be under 2.5 goals.
Notts County 1-0 AFC Wimbledon
Though their scoring record is not good against Wimbledon, Notts County have already achieved a 1-0 home win against their opponents this season, and given the importance of this game, they will be eager to repeat the feat.
Saturday’s action in La Liga sees a clash between 7th-placed Celta Vigo and a struggling Sevilla side.
The hosts, Celta Vigo, have had a fabulous season, sitting in 7th spot in the La Liga table, and within the spots for European qualification. On the other hand, Sevilla have disappointed throughout the season, sitting two places and six points above the relegation places.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about the sides ahead of kick-off.
• Celta Vigo have scored 10 goals in their last five matches
• Celta Vigo have lost once in their last five meetings with Sevilla
• Sevilla have not won in their last seven matches
• Sevilla have scored four goals in their last five matches
As four games remain in the Spanish season, Celta Vigo will fancy their chances for European qualification as they are matched up with several teams that are in the mid and lower areas of the La Liga. Sevilla is the start of that, Celta Vigo coming into the fixture on an inconsistent run of form, winning twice and losing three times in their last five matches.
Their opponents, Sevilla, have been in a torrid form as of late and need a huge result to turn the tide. Sevilla have not won in their last seven games, with the 16th-placed side also picking up just two points in that period. The last time out was a slightly positive 2-2 against Leganes as Sevilla got back onto the scoresheet.
Borja Iglesias will be one to watch in this fixture, the Spaniard having scored nine goals and assisted three in 33 La Liga appearances this season. The Celta Vigo also comes into the fixture on a hot run of form, scoring four goals in his last three games.
Celta Vigo Predicted Lineup (3-4-2-1): Guaita, Rodriguez, Lago, Alonso, Carreira, Beltran, Sotelo, Minguezam Lopez, Gonzalez, Iglesias.
Ahead of facing Sevilla, Celta Vigo have a relatively fresh squad, with only one player confirmed to be out, due to injury. Carl Starfelt will miss the fixture with a hamstring injury.
On the other hand, Celta Vigo’s only other doubt is Jones El-Abdellaoui, who missed out in the previous fixture due to a thigh injury.
Sevilla Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Nyland, Carmona, Bade, Salas, Pedrosa, Agoume, Niguez, Suso, Fernandez, Lukebakio, Pascual.
Unlike their opponents, Sevilla will have several absentees in this fixture. Jose Angel Carmona will miss out due to suspension, following an accumulation of yellow cards.
While Akor Adams, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Diego Hormigo, Tanguy Nianzou, and Ruben Vargas are all out with injuries.
With both teams operating in the top tier of Spanish football, Celta Vigo and Sevilla have met on several occasions. In their 27 meetings, Sevilla come out as the victors with 11 wins compared to eight wins for Celta Vigo and eight draws.
Recent Meetings:
• 30th December 2022 – Celta Vigo 1-1 Sevilla
• 7th April 2023 – Sevilla 2-2 Celta Vigo
• 4th November 2023 – Celta Vigo 1-1 Sevilla
• 17th March 2024 – Sevilla 1-2 Celta Vigo
• 14th December 2024 – Sevilla 1-0 Celta Vigo
Near the bottom of the table, Sevilla have little to play for this season, with their survival all but confirmed. However, for Celta Vigo, all remaining games are crucial as they look to secure European football for next season.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Celta Vigo to win. Odds of 4/5 from PariMatch means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £18.00.
This match will be broadcast live on La Liga TV in the UK.
• Date: Saturday, 10 May
• Kick-off Time: 15:15 GMT
• Channel: LA LIGA TV
