The International Break is still going much to the disappointment of all the UEFA Nations League haters. Either way here at Football Park we have a tip from our betting expert for Monday night's game between Montenegro and Wales.
Missing out from Euro 2024 qualification by just three points, Montenegro will have to pick themselves up again for this match against Wales. Their qualification group had them facing off against some big nations in Hungary and Serbia, the two teams that went onto make it into the Euros.
Euros aside and Montenegro suffered a defeat last Friday in their first UEFA Nations League match of the year. They were beaten 2-0 by Iceland, currently placing them in rock bottom of Group 4. That game has now been added to a run of three straight defeats as in their last two friendlies they were unable to beat their opponents, 2-0 and a 1-3 loss against Belgium and Georgia respectively.
The Brave Falcons have actually played Wales a couple of times before. In the three matches between the two sides, Montenegro have come out victorious twice but in their last faceoff they were handed a 2-1 defeat. That match won’t affect them for Monday’s game since 13 years have passed in the time they last played each other.
Like their opponents in this match, Wales also failed to make it to Euro 2024 but their story is much more heartbreaking. A Euro Qualification Playoff Final last March had Wales taking on Poland in the last possible chance of progressing to be part of this year’s edition of the European Championships. A goalless stalemate after not only 90 minutes but 120 ensured that the match would have to go to a penalty shootout to achieve a decision. Dan James missed the crucial penalty and sent his country packing.
However since then and their 2024-25 Nations League campaign has started well, keeping a clean sheet and earning a point in a 0-0 draw against a team that are continuously considered “Dark Horses” in every tournament they’re in, Turkey. It was new manager Craig Bellamy’s first game in charge and the man with 78 caps for Wales will now look for his first win in charge of The Dragons. He was actually on the pitch the last time these sides met but was unable to contribute any goals. This time around and he'll be hoping that his men can find the back of the net and pick up all three points.
Our betting experts have gone with Wales To Win. An impressive result against Turkey bodes well for Wales in this one. Neither side has been playing terrifically of late but we can see Wales getting the better of Montenegro in this one.
Through our bookmakers you can get odds as good as 7/4 via Betfred. Provided a £10 stake is placed, you could see winnings of £24.
UK viewers will be able to catch the match on BBC iPlayer / S4C / S4C Clic.
