Newcastle vs Fulham Prediction

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United will be looking to continue their upward momentum when they host Fulham at St. James’ Park in Saturday’s Premier league action.

After climbing into the top five, having been 13th at the end of November, the Magpies will have their sights firmly set on the Champions league spots at the end of the season, as they look to upset England’s elite.

Meanwhile, Fulham’s form has tailed off somewhat. After eight games without a league defeat, Marco Silva’s side have tasted defeat in two of their last three, against West Ham and Man UTD respectively.

However, a dangerous side on a bad day, they will certainly cause Newcastle some problems, and have more than a puncher’s chance of taking something back to London.

As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.

Key Statistics

  • Newcastle have been prolific in recent months, with striker Alexander Isak leading the way with 17 goals in 21 games.
  • They have also won six of the last seven meetings with Fulham, although their most recent fixture in September saw Fulham pick up a 3-1 win.
  • Despite winning just two of their last five league games, Fulham have remained effective in front of goal, scoring ten goals in that time.
  • An ever-present for Fulham this season, Antonee Robinson is set to make his 175th appearance for the Cottagers against Newcastle.

Newcastle United Preview

Newcastle United Predicted Lineup (4-3-3): Nick Pope (GK); Lewis Hall, Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento; Joelinton, Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes; Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak, Jacob Murphy.

After a troublesome start to the season, Eddie Howe’s time is now purring like a V8 engine. Seven wins in eight league games, and with Alexander Isak in golden boot winning form, he has revived the Tyneside’s clubs hopes of a top four finish, after a slow start saw most people write them off completely.

A lot of their misfortune comes down to key players getting injured in the opening weeks of the season. Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles and Alexander Isak were all out for long periods, which coincided with a drop in form.

However, as soon as Isak resumed his place in the side, results started to improve, and as other players have slowly recovered, things just kept getting better. Now missing only, Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes, Newcastle should have more than enough class on the pitch to win their seventh game in eight attempts against Fulham.

Fulham Preview

Fulham Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Bernd Leno (GK); Antonee Robinson, Calvin Bassey, Joachim Andersen, Timothy Castagne; Sander Berge, Sasa Lukic; Alex Iwobi, Emile Smith-Rowe, Harry Wilson; Raul Jimenez.

Throughout November and December, Fulham seemed to be in unbeatable form. Draws against Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and a win against Chelsea seemed to suggest that they were surprise outsiders for European football next season.

While they are still considered as continental football chasers, things have cooled off recently. Drawing to Ipswich, they lost two of their next three, with the only bright spot being a routine win against Leicester City.

Boasting a squad with only two injuries, they could be suffering a case of burnout. Picking up results against top sides like they did take its toll, physically and mentally, and perhaps Fulham needed the week break between fixtures to refocus and refuel. Should they come out of the gates fast this weekend, Newcastle could struggle to contain them.

Newcastle United vs Fulham Betting Tip

While we have seen that Fulham have more than enough ability to shock some top sides, Newcastle’s form has been too dominant to ignore. Winning nine of their last 10 games in all competitions, there is no obvious reason why that streak shouldn’t continue here, so we are backing Howe’s side to win.

Newcastle United vs Fulham Final Prediction

Newcastle 2-1 Fulham

It will be a close-fought affair, and Fulham will certainly have more than enough chances to reverse the scoreline, but Isak’s prowess in front of goal has been impressive in the extreme, and he will prove to be the tie-breaker in this one.
