Another weekend means another matchday in EFL League One, 17th placed Northampton host promotion pushing Wrexham this Saturday.
Northampton haven’t stayed in a league for more than two years for nine seasons now, constantly bouncing between League One and Two, however, that could finally change this year with the Cobblers six points above the relegation zone. Northampton have picked up 10 points in their last six games, winning three, losing two and drawing one. If they keep this indifferent form up they make a strong case for survival.
Wrexham look closer to the second tier than ever after a 43-year absence. The Red Dragons have lost six times in the league all season after gaining back-to-back promotions the two seasons beforehand. They also comfortably beat Northampton earlier this season 4-1. Wrexham have earned seven points in their last six games, a worse record compared to Northampton, winning two, drawing one and losing three.
Predicted Line Up: Nikola Tzanev, Max Dyche, Jordan Willis, Timothy Eyoma, Mitchell Pinnock, Sam Hoskins, Terry Taylor, Liam Shaw, Tarique Fosu, Cameron McGeehan, Tom Eaves
Midfielder Cameron McGeehan has been a highlight of the Cobblers’ season and scored the winning goal against Mansfield last Friday. McGeehan has eight goals and two assists in League One this season, the most goal contributions in the squad.
Predicted Line Up: Arthur Okwonko, Dan Scarr, Thomas O’Connor, Max Cleworth, James McLean, Ryan Barnett, Oliver Rathbone, Matty James, George Dobson, Sam Smith, Jay Rodriguez
All eyes will be on Wrexham’s new-look striker partnership of Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith, both January signings the pair started their first game up top together last time out in League One. Smith scored 11 goals in the first half of the season for Reading. Rodriguez scored two Championship goals for Burnley but saw game time gradually dwindle at the club. Both will be looking to grab their first goal for Wrexham against Northampton.
Northampton and Wrexham have met 35 times in a history dating back to the 60s. Northampton have won 11 times, Wrexham have won 16 times and there have been eight draws. The last five results are as follows:
Northampton will give Wrexham a good challenge, but eventually, the away side will prevail. Equally, a goalless draw wouldn’t be a surprise. For that reason, our betting experts have gone with Wrexham to win as our best value tip for this game. Odds of 10/11 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £19.30 in this match.
