Stuttgart can move with one point of Leipzig in 4th due to the close nature of the league table if they are victorious away from home on Wednesday. Leipzig started life back from the winter break in style with a 4-2 victory at the Red Bull Arena, where their front three looked unstoppable. Expect Stuttgart to bring a fight, especially being at home, but overall struggle across the full 90. With both sides also currently participating in the Champions League, their interests might be elsewhere with both clubs vitally needing a win in Europe.
With Leipzig in 4th and Stuttgart in 7th this is set to be an intense clash. However it should be factored in that both sides have got Champions League games coming up, whilst Leipzig already look down and out a win for Stuttgart against Bratislava next week would put them in a great position to qualify for the play off round, so they might prioritise that.
Line Up (4-4-2): Alex Nubel, Josha Vagnomann, Anthony Rouault, Julian Chabot, Maximilian Mittelstadt, Enzo Millot, Atakan Karazor, Angelo Stiller, Chris Fuhrich, Deniz Undav, Nick Woltermade
Stuttgart are unfortunately part of the large pack hunting European football and will need to keep winning to try and escape it. After returning to the Bundesliga in 2020 the side were often mid-table mediocrity. That was until last season when they stunned everyone to finish in a Champions League place, unable to live up to those same expectations this season. That being said they have managed to pick up two wins in the Champions League this season, including notably against Juventus on Matchday Two.
After his outstanding campaign last season, Deniz Undav’s return to the starting XI is a strong possibility after he scored the only goal in Suttgart’s 1-0 win at Augsburg. The striker who signed permanently from Brighton for 30 million Euros this Summer currently has 6 goals in 10 league appearances. 22-year-old Enzo Millot has also had a breakout season with 13 goal contributions in all competitions so far this season.
Line Up (3-4-2-1): Peter Gulacsi, Willi Orban, Nicolas Seiwald, Lukas Klostermann, David Raum, Antonio Nusa, Arthur Vermeeren, Christoph Baumgartner, Lois Openda, Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko
A win for the home side this weekend could take them above Frankfurt and into 3rd, potentially closing the gap on Bayern in 1st to 6 points. They successfully dismissed Werder Bremen last weekend, winning 4-2 with Xavi Simons returning from injury to score a spectacular brace. It has been a disappointing season for Die Rotten Bullen, losing all six of their Champions League games, meaning they are likely to crash out of to tournament before the knockout stage. They will have to continue winning if they are to achieve their dream of lifting the German title.
Leipzig are also lucky enough to have one of the deadliest strike partnerships in Europe, the classic small and pacey forward combined with the big and powerful. Openda and Sesko collectively have 34 goal contributions combined in all competitions and we are only in January. Sesko has also scored in four Bundesliga games in a row. Therefore they will always be players to look out for, as one is likely to be involved in a goal, especially if the game is set to be high-scoring. Xavi Simons is also back amongst the goals and looked on fire against Bremen after scoring an incredible solo goal, meaning their front three is as threatening as can be.
This pair have played each other 12 times since Leipzig joined the Bundesliga, Stuttgart have only beaten Leizpgi once, their 5-2 home win a year ago. Leipzig have been victorious 9 times and there have been 2 draws. Therefore Leipzig are clear favourites for a reason.
It's a tough game in terms of scoring, both teams have the ability to score but are better defensively as they do not give gaps between blocks. For that reason, our betting experts have gone with a draw at half time as our best value tip for this game.
Odds of 6/4 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £25 in this match.
