Wolves now sit bottom of the Premier League table by 6 points, after losing 3-2 to Burnley with a last minute winner from Burnley talisman Lyle Foster. After another poor result at home today, Wolves have only registered one point at home this season, and their last win at home came in April last season. Burnley, however, will be the much happier of the two sides after picking up their first away win of the season and leaving a five-point gap between them and 18th placed Nottingham Forest. Here are the biggest talking points from Wolves’ defeat to Burnley this afternoon.
At the double, Zian Flemming scored both his first and second goal of the season within the space of fifteen minutes. The attacker had both his goals set up by fellow Dutchman Quilindschy Hartman and the first with a beauty of a cross that found an unmarked Flemming to tuck away expertly with a side-footed volley. The ex-Millwall-man then added his second not long after with an easy tap in. This is where the boos started from the Wolves fans.
The home side fought back and equalled the score line before the half was over at 2-2 with a penalty from Wolves matchday captain Jorgen Strand Larsen and then a second from Marshall Munetsi. The game looked to stay that way until the 95th minute when Hannibal Mejbri spotted the darting run of Lyle Foster who kept his cool and finished his chance. The striker looked offside but was able to keep himself inches onside and giving Burnley a second win in a row after last week’s win against Leeds.

Wolves just cannot seem to perform at home this season, or for much of last season. Whether it is the fans lack of faith in the team or the players lack of faith in themselves, picking up a win at home is a tall order for Wolves. The matter of fact is picking up a win anywhere for Wolves is asking for a lot. The reaction at the last whistle from Wolves fans was a lot to go by, with boos filling the stadium. Whether this will encourage the players or not, Wolves need to make The Molineux a fortress again. Their last home victory came against Leicester City last season, a team that now play in the Championship. If Wolves don’t buck their ideas up, they will be heading in the same direction.
It seems all the clubs around Wolves seem to be improving and recruiting well in last summer’s window, but Wolves are going in the opposite direction. Each side they put out seems to be disjointed, with no real leaders in the dressing room. Remember the days of Diogo Jota, Reuben Neves, Adama Traore, Connor Coady and a plethora of others. Some of these players only left two or three seasons ago, and now Wolves don’t have anyone they can rely on. Strand Larsen has been consistent over the last couple seasons, but he can’t carry the whole side on his back. Wolves spent over £100 million on new signings last summer, and none of them have stood out so far. It is important to note that none of these new players have come from English sides. Wolves boss Vitor Pereira’s naivety seems to have gone on display as it can take more than a season to adjust to English football. He was even seen arguing with the Wolves fans at the end of the game. Not a good look.
If you’re the Wolves manager you can’t even argue at the fans anger…

The opposite could be said for Burnley, as their new signings have been key to their Premier League return. Kyle Walker was a smart pickup for Scott Parker as he prides his sides on defensive ability and prowess, something which Walker has emulated his whole career. Parker didn’t keep his hands in his pockets either, as he also spent over £100 million on new signings last summer. But at this point in time, his spending spree is paying off as they sit above the relegation spots having won back-to-back games.
Wolves will travel to West London next Saturday in a hopeful bid to get their first win of the season against a Fulham side who have lost their last four games. It could only be a matter of time before Vitor Pereira potentially gets the sack, if results carry on this way. Burnley however, will hope to keep their winning streak alive against league leaders Arsenal who sit 4 points clear after their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
