It's safe to say Wolves haven't exactly been on fire this season… At least not in the positive sense.
In fact, if Wolves were to be on fire, it would more likely be the kind accompanied by torches and pitchforks from the Molineux faithful.
An abysmal first half of the season, which included a manager change and some serious inquests behind the scenes, has led to an almost impossible situation to recover from, with the club now a massive 15 points from safety in the Premier League.
And so, you are probably looking at the title of this article with bewilderment that one could even suggest Wolves end the season above the drop zone… But just hear me out here.
Results have been few and far between, but of the six points they have picked up all season, four of them have come in the last two gameweeks.
Not to mention the 3-0 drubbing of fellow relegation candidates West Ham last time out, which saw them pick up their first win of the season in convincing fashion.
So, with the upturn in form in the last few weeks, could Wolves actually pull off the greatest escape in Premier League history? Well, let's talk about it.
Having rolled over with nothing more than a whimper in most of their games this season, there were serious question marks around whether this could be the year that Derby's lowest points record could be broken.
But, since Vitor Pereira was sacked and replaced with Rob Edwards, there has been a noticeable shift in on-pitch performances.
"I just don't think he should have left!" 😅

Slowly but surely, though, the tide has begun to change.
The players now seem to have more impetus and purpose; the structure looks more organised and more competent in every area of the pitch, and, quite frankly, Wolves are beginning to look like a Premier League team again.
And that has, as mentioned, been reflected in the results.
A draw away from home against Manchester United in a game which could well have resulted in more, followed by that excellent 3-0 win at home against West Ham – even in the games they are getting beat in, such as the 2-1 defeat at Anfield where they once again could have come away with more, Wolves just look better.
Now, of course, this improvement has only spanned a meagre few games, and the possibility of it being merely a fluke is still present – but should they keep it up, who knows what could happen?
Not only are Wolves beginning to pass the eye test, but they have been better than their current standing statistically, surprisingly, all season.
Now, I don't like to pay too much attention to Xg; in fact, many think it's a redundant stat.
But it undeniably deserves some recognition when it is kept up for such a long period, and that is exactly the case for Wolves.

This, in theory, points toward a big improvement in the near future… One we may be seeing as we speak.
In short, if Wolves were to pull off this feat, it would be the single most insane thing we have possibly ever witnessed in the Premier League.
A 15-point gap at this stage is the equivalent of having to summit Everest in four weeks. Almost impossible.
The key word being almost.
If everything goes entirely according to plan and Wolves keep up the form they have picked up in recent weeks, especially when looking at the poor quality of those like Nottingham Forest who they are aiming to catch, it begins to feel ever so slightly more plausible.
From being lauded as the worst team to ever grace the Premier League merely a few weeks ago and laughed at for the appointment of Rob Edwards, to surviving the drop from the most unlikely of positions?
Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves here; after all, we've never seen anything of the like.
But it's fun to dream isn't it?
